I wanna save $2 mil by the time I'm 35, retire and start a non profit academy for training people to enter the workforce with better skills. Specifically related to technology. Thoughts/suggestions?

I'm 35 right now and have $800K saved up. I saved 35% of my income every year since graduating, I got a B.S. and MBA for free, I've invested wisely in stocks, and I always roomed with people until I got married to save money. I even take lunch to work on most days. I'm in a better savings position than 90% of people my age and no where close to $2M

like

35 is about when people make partner (at least at our firm). Having $2M by then is a stretch, but if you are a prolific partner you could definitely get to the $2M before 40. It could also be easier if you had an SO dedicated to the same goal.

@S1 Primarily looking at getting men/women in their early 20s to be trained in SDLC, Java, RPA, Agile etc. so that out of college or with a few years of experience or if people want to switch to technology from ops etc., they are able to get that training to get a sustainable tech job. I see a huge skill gap when I see most folks in their 20s. @M1 Ey is always hiring in FSO Advisory. The question is not how much we make, it's about how much we save/invest ;)

Quit EY and go into banking. You ain't getting there with EY. Also don't get married unless he or she is ultra rich and hold off from having kids. All of this knowledge is being passed to you from a 14 year long consultant father of four.

like

Manager1. Struggling understanding what you wrote. Im by no means broke but saving retirements, four kids college funds and still trying to travel limits your ability accumulate 2mil by 35. #themoreyouknow

like

@OP - you may need to leave EY, and work for yourself to accomplish your financial goals.

like

Do you have anything set aside now? A trust fund? 2mil over 7 years is what? 285k per year? Do you make enough?

It's not about what you make p3, it's about what you save bro

Haha that was my point, 4 kids is a lot of $$$

Get a job paying $1M a day, work for 2 days

You can make a lot of money in consulting, but you can't get rich. Buy a lot of money I mean a 7 figure income. By rich, I mean in 8 figure payday

I'm 28 right now.

Best of luck to you OP, but I fear the next seven years will not be as prosperous as the last seven with regard to the stock market. Hopefully you are well on your way to that $2M as is!

Maybe off-topic, but I’ve got a question related to taxes and withholding. 2020 was the first year that both me and my wife made full salaries in our high-paying jobs (she’s a pharmacist, I’m in consulting). We don’t do anything out of the ordinary to reduce our taxes, we just put ~ 6% each towards our 401k’s. No house or kids so our other deductions are limited. Just started doing taxes and got a shock that we owe big. Any others in this situation? Do you just withhold a ton extra on W4?

Also as opposed to Accenture strategy where it might be someone’s 5th choice to go to, interactive tends to be people’s first choice given our mkt position

This bowl: USA vs non USA I enjoy a lot of threads in this bowl, but equally a hell of a lot are US specific, and pharma advertising just doesn't work in the same way anywhere else in the world. Would love to know what proportion of the active bowl users are based inside vs outside of the USA? Should threads always have country/city tags where relevant? Edit for clarity, it's not just DTC vs HCP, it's also queries like who's hiring, who's doing good work, process, workload, holidays, etc.
