I want to apply for a certain employer so I asked my friend who used to work there if he knew if there were job openings. He asked his former colleague and my friend was informed that they did have a vacancy and that I could send my CV to one of their bosses there and gave also me the email address. How should I word the email on how I got the person's email address? Or should I not mention it at all and just introduce myself and attach my CV?

Do not pass up the chance to mention your legitimate connections. “Hi X, I am interested in the [position] at company Y, which I heard about through my friend, Z, who suggested reaching out to you. I’m a [practice area] attorney with [number] years of experience, and I’m currently at [law firm]. My resume and deal sheet are attached, would love to discuss if this might be a good fit, let me know. Z has told me so many great things about company Y and [position] seems like a great fit for my experience and interests, so I’m really excited about this opportunity.” or some such. But agreed with the other comment that the better way to do it is to have your friend do an intro.

Thanks, this is helpful!

Could your friend connect you with the former colleague so that you can ask directly as to which approach to take? That way you can also set up an informal call and get their take on what that employer is like.

Yeah this makes sense, but I was kinda hoping that I could avoid this route because I don't want to inconvenience anyone haha

Hoping to get some thoughts on career path? I left an agency about 1.5 years ago (content manager and prev social) to go in house (copywriter). Long story short, agency wants to offer me a senior director role. However, this isn't client facing and would be marketing for the agency itself. I left to focus on writing. I love the company where I'm at now. The agency is small compared to my current company, but the title could be helpful later. Thoughts?

Considering an expert role in healthcare in mid Atlantic region at McKinsey. Any thoughts about culture, wlb, tc, etc? Have read through a bunch of older threads. Opinion seems mixed. Negatives mentioned include more intense work hours than integrative track, second class citizen, slower career progression, lower pay than integrative, harder to get staffed on engagements, poor integration into teams, and subpar exit opportunities. Also read this is changing. Would appreciate recent thoughts. 🙏
