Hello fellow Long Islander. Your comp sounds low to me. Google Robert Half’s legal salary guide. They give detailed comp by location and size of firm.
Thank you, I will definitely cite this guide in my meeting. It shows a mid-level paralegal at around $70,000.
Are you upstate or in the City? I was a paralegal in Albany making $22 hourly at three years in 2016 prior to law school. It was a small firm and I busted my butt. It might be more advantageous to ask for hourly compensation rather than salary. I still wasn’t paid a lot but at least got overtime
Also, if you present an hourly vs salary model your boss is more likely to just give you a raise. Right now I estimate you’re making around $29.50 per hour, assuming a 40 hour work week, 52 weeks a year. Show him or her the amount of hours you actually work per week. If that number typically exceeds the 40 hour work week, they should have no problem bumping up your salary to avoid paying overtime if you were hourly
Eva Wisnik’s salary survey is also great. Given the market, I think the numbers she collected at the end of 2021 have even increased.
