I want to be great. But I pour so much into work that my personal life & support system suffers. When I hit low points, idk how to cope or mask it. It trickles into my performance. How do you manage?

Just slowly came to the realization that being great at work wasn’t as important to me as I thought it was. Like, yes, I want to do great work, yes, I want to be recognized for it, but I also want to live my life. And at the end of the day, I’d rather be great at something else instead of advertising. I’d rather be a great dad, a great husband. Not saying I am either one, but I’d rather put my efforts in there than towards killing myself for some company that couldn’t care less about me.

What helps me is taking a long vacation to gain perspective. Helps me realize that work isn’t the end all be all- I come back with the same skills, more motivation, and less emotional investment.

I think you question has the answers you need. Your personal life and support system are how we all can get through our low points. As your question also connotes masking and coping mechanisms aren't effective either and eventually leech into your work. There's a book called Designing Your Life. It may help you form the right paradigms to define and achieve what greatness is for you.

What does an 800 GMAT do you for you? Can it get you interviews at M7 schools despite being mediocre in other areas? Wondering if it’s special given its rarity vs 780 or 790. I’ve been getting ~780 on practice tests but wondering if the extra 20 points are worth it. Goal is HSW but would settle for any M7.

All-my dad has been guilt tripping me into visiting him. He is 8 hours away driving without stopping. I am pregnant and am not traveling anywhere where I can’t drive non stop - not even seeing my in laws 90 minutes away. I know it sounds crazy but that is where I am. He half jokingly said I could wear Depends. Please tell me I’m not crazy and that it’s okay for me to not go and my dad should be at least somewhat understanding. We don’t have the best relationship.
