I want to be more like my non work version self than the uptight, PC version that I feel like I have to be at work. Are people actually like that or do they also feel like they can’t be themselves?

I would be fired quickly if I could be myself. People get offended for anything these days

If that’s all it took to get you to vote for Trump, you were going to vote for him anyway. Not surprised none of the other things he does bothers you.

Bringing my genuine self to my team and client is part of what makes this job sustainable for me. When I’m staffing, I talk about that a lot — I like to joke around and keep the team room light. Finding teams I can connect with in that way is actually really important to me / my happiness on a study. I solve for it, to some degree. It’s not all jokes all the time, but I do feel like I’m not that different out of work than I am at the client.

My real self hates working. How could I bring that to work?

With you! My real self just wants to get fat and play video games all day.

Hmm my experience is that my teams are actively inclusive and that we are able to be vulnerable with each other when appropriate and joke around / playfully poke fun at each other. My team members and I laugh out loud dozens of times together each day, it’s my favorite part of being on a team! In terms of tips, it’s worth you establishing in the first week that this is what the vibe will be, and the team will follow. Also, I feel like having a ton of case team events help break down the facade early on (you tend to run out of shallow things to talk about!)

Respectfully disagree.

I am nowhere close to myself at work. Societal expectations? 🤷🏾‍♀️

I’ve been told by several clients how much they enjoyed working with us vs. MBB because we were ‘not robots’. I always try and bring my full self to work because it’s much less tiring than trying to pretend I’m someone I’m not.

This PC shit is way overblown. It’s not hard to avoid inappropriate work topics and still bring your authentic self to work.

Don’t talk about: sex, religion, politics, partying, race, compensation, or be an asshole/ talk shit about your coworkers

You can quite literally talk about *anything* else.

What can’t you talk about that you want to talk about?

like

Do you have hobbies? Do you read? Do you try new things?

Is this how life is at MBB generally? Maybe I shouldn’t be fighting so hard to go to bschool and just sit tight..

Nope!

At work I’m very close (I just offend and swear a little bit less) than myself outside work.

It’s not question to get away or not, it’s that I wouldn’t work in a place where I cannot be myself

I bring my true self to work everyday.
