I want to have a side gig as a product consultant (or career coach) in addition to a full time job to explore my own interests and do things I find fun and filling. Side projects would be outside of normal working hours and may not generate tangible income. I have one mentor telling me I should be upfront and transparent about it to make sure it's ok and another telling me absolutely not, do not tell any future employers that you have side gigs. What should I do as I am job hunting presently?

Be upfront. It’s very common these days. We just hired someone into a leadership position who has a legit distillery and sells into liquor stores / restaurants etc. we were just clear about the job and what it entails but we fully support them in their passion project and as long as it doesn’t interfere then go for it. I think it shows what they are capable of etc. it’s kinda refreshing to hear someone’s hobbies aren’t traveling and exercising.

Many companies require side gigs be disclosed. Personally, I think honesty is the best policy. It’s legit, doesn’t conflict with your work, just CYA and disclose.

like

I think if you're not using any company time to work on side gigs then there should be no issue with disclosing it

like

They think that if you are doing side gigs you are not that focused on your current job with them. Some companies want your full attention to make sure that your work with them is not compromised.

like

Companies in highly regulated industries prohibit side gigs due to federal law, conflicts of interest, intellectual property rights.

Always disclose because your integrity is on the line. Imagine if they find out later, it would look bad on you because you purposely hid it.

like

Thanks all! Seems like there's overall consensus that honesty is the best policy.

I see nothing wrong with this. Since you will be working outside of your normal working hours, there's nothing to worry about. But to be sure and to avoid future problems, just tell your manager about it.

I have been struggling in my job search trying to get back into my desired industry, entertainment, after having to take a job in real estate during the pandemic. Similar roles just different industry. Despite applying for a variety jobs with different qualification levels, I have not even gotten an interview for any jobs I have applied for over the past six months. Some I even am a top match for based on my LinkedIn skills. I know I can prove myself in a interview. How do I get past this gate?

Looking to leave my AAE role to move in a direction towards PM. Any advice? Entry level/lower level PM jobs seem harder to come by.

I’ve been an LPN for 8 years, predominately in pediatrics, both in patient and home healthcare. I’ve worked in medical offices for 10+ years before that. I saw another similar post but the OP is an RN, and I didn’t know how much that information would apply to me as an LPN.
