Many who repatriate are lured by a vibrant startup scene in India that is drawing unprecedented capital from venture and private equity firms and is buoyed by an effervescent market for stocks. But they are also disenchanted with what they perceive as America’s bleak and hopeless immigration landscape, where the wait times for green cards are tortuously long, and the limits on launching startups for newcomers are highly restrictive.

If your employer won’t sponsor you then you’re out of luck there. You would need an employer to sponsor you, and if they won’t, then you need a new job. Getting a job in Europe is incredibly difficult if you aren’t already on the ground over there. Once your foot is in the door is much easier (but still harder than the US). In my experience, companies won’t bother with you because wafflers ruined it for us - people think it sounds cool to move over, then they get the offer which will be very disappointing (salaries are 70% or less than what you make in the US depending on the field). Then because the money is disappointing, they start to second guess the move and then they bail. American salary expectations are too high so they are better off just hiring from within Europe, from people that are already used to the standard salary bands.
As someone who took a 50% pay cut to move to Dublin from San Francisco, it still hurts. But I was dedicated and it was worth it. I’m in a new country with a US based salary now so it was worth it but most people simply bail when they get the offer. I also only got in by strategizing to work for a company that would inter company transfer me.
*Im a US citizen. That maybe helpful 😂
It depends on the field as you rightly said if you are in to Legal and Finance i don't see a big difference. If Software Developers and Consulting i would say yes.
On the sponsorship you will find it easily these days as long as you are in a field that's in demand generally, after Brexit there is no free movement so demand has gone up for Non EU workers or workers generally.
