I feel you. ☝🏻Hear me out tho… Knowing those people personally, and feeling however awful you and your team feel… are the people you want to name worth driving yourself into the ground in good faith? Short answer is “fuck no.” They never were worth that at any point in time: not past/present/future. Ever. So stop giving yourself so abundantly to them. Draw lines and boundaries expressly. Will there be consequences to either option? Sure. But 1 way is slightly less extreme and less likely to get you fired on the spot if you were trying to create boundaries all along (however politely/ineffectively), (unless that’s what you’re hoping - to just get fired- given your current level of *idgaf*) . Say no. Pack up. Leave. Close your laptop. Turn your phone on do not disturb outside of business hours. And when confronted - hold your ground. “I don’t Ont be able to complete these 800 petty review notes by 5AM tomorrow.” Because youre entitled to your life and well being and don’t owe anyone an apology or Hail Mary miracle for any bit more than what you’re being paid to do in a standard 40-55 hour work week. Idc if you’re getting paid $200k as a 1st year staff. More dollars does not = owing them every bit of your life and person around the clock. That’s just what they want to inexperienced to think. So they feel compelled to work harder and blah blah morale bullshit/paying your dues bullshit as much as they can possibly glean from you…. before you figure out they don’t give a rip about you and you’re massive effort won’t be reciprocated even for a minute. So what if your boss gets mad? Let ‘em! Throw a tantrum? Let ‘em! They’re still just nerdy fucking accountants in a suit, just people lol… people who are upper management and so far removed from the work most of them can’t *DO* the work for lack of knowing how to operate any of the damn 42 software programs we use *for* them. And not the kinda people to physically fear in almost any case lmao! I’m all for burnin’ a bridge if that’s what you feel n your heart needs to happen? But if you burn out and get canned… nothing happens. If you pace yourself and remember you are the ultimate authority over yourself - always, any day all day every fuckin day - and take your boss’s tantrum-style displeasure with a grain of salt more often? Least you’ll still be around long enough to show other young’ns (maybe even your peers too) that there’s nothing wrong with having confidence and self respect. That they *too* can also draw their own boundaries and not give a damn excuse because no one needs one. We’re not flying space rockets or performing life saving heart surgery? We’re white collar office people…. There’s no business so urgent it’s worth 95 hour weeks endlessly - tf we rushing for beyond maybe 85 hours once or twice in the year? Especially at the entry levels?! You’re getting paid enough to live well and you don’t even get a second to experience/enjoy it? “Oh well it’s gonna cost the bosses money/opportunity/promotion/whatever tf if I don’t come through!” Bullishit. They’re making at more than the entry levels. They got skin in the game *if they don’t come through.* As it should be! If they’re so greedy about making their cut above and beyond whatever they think your expendable worth is? Let them rush ass around and ask how to use the software and actually do* the shit to come through and close on the win! Let me do it enough and you know what??? They’ll be hiring some more mf people to do that work lol. Not because anyone/everyone told them it’s necessary/begged them to this entire time? BUT because they felt enough of the impact to finally gaf themselves! Crazy shit huh? Real talk: I’m sorry things are in the state that they are. 🍻🍻Hope you laughed at least at my Ted talk.

Go ahead. As long as it’s not me. Otherwise don’t do it.

I’m not. But I doubt your managers and directors think they are either. Self awareness is a beautiful thing.
