I can’t help but be jealous of my coworkers who all came from well off families. My parents are blue collar workers and I have no one to help me figure out a lot of stuff (finances). First generation immigrant, first to graduate. I had 0 connections. I had to work extra hard to be where I’m at. I find myself continually struggling and having anxiety if I fail at my job because I know it’ll be even harder for me to get up because I only have myself and can’t rely on anyone else.

Does anyone have a great career coach that they could recommend? Looking for a referral as opposed to just doing a blind search. Also looking for someone who can help with a job search as opposed to just confidence coaching. Thanks!

I need a job. I’m an attorney licensed in La. and now living in Fl. I can’t find any kind of work. What should I be doing? I’m willing to do - and interested in doing - all types of work both in the legal field and in other fields.

Is there any reason I can’t push back my start date for a new position? It was originally estimated that my background check would clear in 4-6 weeks so I had made travel plans before then. Now it’s cleared in only 3 and they asked me to start in exactly two weeks. Is it reasonable to ask them to go with the original date or does that look bad with my new boss?

I interviewed for an in house position with an in house recruiter. It went well and I was told my resume was escalated. I was also sent a copy of the company's benefits package. It has been 6 weeks and I haven't heard anything. I emailed the recruiter in follow up and heard nothing back. Likely I am out?

What’s the best way to figure out if I’m getting paid market rate as corporate counsel for a large tech company? I’m at $150k, 7th year, handle any and all legal matters that arise in our company (a subsidiary of a global telecom company w $11 billion annual revenue) along with three other attorneys including the GC. We all work our butts off and I just don’t know how to figure out if I’m getting paid fairly for it.

I'm an experienced attorney (16 years), worked in government, small/medium firms, been a solo. I'm also looking to get out of family/immigration law and go into labor/insurance defense/litigation. According to BCG I'm a terrible candidate for lateral positions and was told that recruiters would never work with me. However, I still get emails/text messages that they want to work with me. WTH?!?!
