They will when they're facing the possibility of missing a paycheck with no job offer(s) in hand. I've already read posts that the competitors hiring those being laid off are offering shit pay. This could be the start of another long downturn and the last thing we want right now is to have our personal brands hurting. Whether we like it or not, our personal brands are tied to our firms in the eyes of he job market. I'm not saying I don't agree with everything everyone is saying, I desperately want out too, before I'm affected by a layoff, but let's at least try to keep the brand from being dragged through mud. It's like your university, it's part of your brand and you want to see it do well.
Ahhh so many notifications π³ thanks guys for the support, and PwC 6, thank you so much for sharing from a director's perspective! I think it's really important that people start speaking up/standing up for themselves. I know Fb is anonymous, but I have no issue owning up to anything I write.
To that point, these recent layoffs have inspired me to channel my thoughts into a less abrasive, more motivational long-form blog post for those who were laid off. It's something I wish I could have read when I was let go during the first round of FS layoffs back in February. It also outs my identity (obviously) but if you've been on this app longer than two weeks, you know that I've already done that once. Funny enough, I received quite a few "omg are you PwC 2???" texts this weekend. Apparently, my writing style is identifiable π€ Anyways, here's the link: http://www.happyhealthydeb.com/ponder/2016/6/26/the-truth-about-being-laid-off
I posted it on the main feed so it can have its own comment thread, but I figured I'd also share it here so no one thinks I semi-plagiarized PwC 2, aka myself π
PS PwC 17, that's some bullshit. I am so so sorry :(
Lol yup definitely HR/leadership. There's so much infuriating bullshit in that statement I don't even know where to start... But here it goes:
1) You're completely missing the point and lol I can't tell if you know you're full of shit or just delusional. The layoffs aren't the issue so much as the manner they are being handled. Ambushing people out of nowhere, trying to blame the separation on them, giving them the worst separation package out of all your competitors... That's what's messed up. Morale is at an all time low, I don't know anyone who isn't actively searching for another job thanks to the layoffs and the laughable salaries and bonuses compared to competitors. Hell, you might not even need to lay anymore people off because here's some news for ya, no one sane wants to stay at this shithole.
2) Not everyone has an "emergency fund" - some people are the sole providers, some have a crushing amount of student debt, some are campus hires with literally no savings, some are a combination of the aforementioned three. It is so incredibly pretentious for you to assume that everyone is in as privileged of a position as you to have an emergency fund, particularly when one of the main factors people work at PwC is job security. (!!!!)
3) HR at PwC is a complete joke; I will never forget the time I thought they could help and instead they stabbed me in the back and made my situation worse. They are a bunch of bumbling idiots, only there to serve as talking heads for leadership and are not there to help you and that is a FACT. And the fact that you are projecting this as a "fit" issue says a lot about you and the messed up mindset of others in HR/leadership.
4) Nobody should be blamed for this? Omg, are you joking? First, I hope you see the irony in your statement considering that literally everyone laid off was told it was for bs performance reasons despite no one ever being told they had issues/put on a PIP. The firm is trying to blame its helpless employees, classic. Second, poor leadership at the top is to blame for everything. Have you noticed that what's going on at PwC is noticeably worse than at every other consulting firm? I know not much strategic thinking is done at this firm but such an issue signifies an INTERNAL problem, not an external one. The fact is leadership had overly aggressive goals that were clearly unattainable. Their arrogance led to the massive shitstorm we are all currently in.
5) Let me give you a lesson in damage control. Stop denying that you fucked up. Stop projecting your mistakes onto people who have already been mistreated enough by you. Stop trying to make all the negative attention go away. The more you try to shame or silence people, the more you'll realize how horribly your plan has backfired. Own up to what you've done, and start finding ways to fix it.
Lmao!! Hey there HR!

I am a director at the firm. And couldn't agree more with your statement. The way we have handled everything will have major rippling affects on us going forward. I don't know why we did layoffs the way we did, I think it just shows how cutthroat we have become. Leadership here is as cutthroat as they come. And half of them aren't even close to as educated as the masses are. They are laying their legacy alright, and DESTROYING the brand image. I feel bad for them. I come from diamond where a lot of these "decision" makers come from. It's sad to see what we have been left to as a firm. I cared about this firm, cared about the people I work with. I have been promoted every time I've been up for it here so have no quarrels with how I've been treated and compensated; but at the end of the day, I can't be successful if we treat / taint / destroy the culture and talent we have here, I can't do it alone. For these reasons, I am taking my talents to south beach.
The way this happened was extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate. While there are some people who have gone overboard, I would say the majority of the people have the right sentiment
Wait also, speaking of professional... Shouldn't we expect the same from the firm?

I wasn't laid off but I am going to start looking elsewhere. Strategy& got crazy huge bonuses and raises while a lot of good folks were getting laid off. They aren't more qualified, they don't do better work, and they don't have better educations. OP go fuck yourself with your ridiculous post. If there is this much resentment maybe you should look in the mirror. Oh I forgot, PwC leadership is infallible simply because they are leadership. At the end of the day, good treatment retains talent. Period end of story. Despite not being laid off, I was given the most bullshit excuse as to why my bonus and raise were low. My rating was good, my client is exceptionally happy with my work etc. but because we didn't hit targets as a company blah blah blah. And yet strategy& we're getting tens of thousands in bonuses! For what?! What fucking revenue stream do they have that merits that? They weren't profitable before they were acquired and they aren't profitable now. Poor leadership decision to put the future of our strategy consulting services in such a trash firm. Especially at the price that was paid.
Let's up vote P2. I couldn't have said it better myself. HR and demand is a joke.
Lol π "please don't bash just because you're frustrated".... When should we bash then?
Damn @PwC 2 went IN! Kudos to you!
The delusional mindset of this post represents everything wrong with this firm. You guys can stuff yourselves. You have betrayed your only sellable asset--talent.
pwc2 for president.
@PwC6 thank you. That was very refreshing to hear from a Director.
I've told every alumni group I'm a member of what's going on here as well. You done goofd
Thank you director from Diamond.
HR must've miscalculated how many of us are on this app.
I was told I was receiving a 13K salary raise on promotion day, then got laid off on the following Thursday. So yeah, I'd like to say things at PwC probably aren't going well...
Bravo @PWC2 ππ»ππ»
I don't think the people who have been laid off care too much about that pwc11
