I want to start a dating app but my cofounders and I have no coding experience. I have a plan but would like some feedback to see if it’s unreasonable. 1. Validate idea through a bunch of market test and create a layout on figma 2. Hire developer to make app. 3. Hire team to continue to run app. Does this sound reasonable? How many roles do I need to fill for when hiring the team to run the app?

Plan seems fine. 0 way of knowing how many roles you need. Stay as lean as possible in the initial phases

Thank you

Both of you + 1 full stack developer with great comp and equity. One of you run the operation, other marketing/pitch the usual fun stuff

like

A viable dating app is a deceptively large technical project. Too much for a single dev even if they're very talented

Team to run the app? Bro, YOU are the team lol.

like

You’re trying to outsource like 80% of the work

If I built a core team for a project like this, it'd be a dev, data/DevOps person, UI/UX person and a marketing person. Sounds like you have multiple founders only covering the last part

Go the no code route. Easy and cheap way to build a prototype and you can invite users to test your beta without spending a lot of money and time on a concept.

And no code gives you flexibility through templates and iterating on the design fairly simply

like

FSD1 - 100% agree with everything you’re saying.

Sounds like the OP needed some guidance on where to start and this could be a way to help validate while also learning some technical components of what’s required to launch an app.

like

First of all, have you done any market research? Don’t we have dating apps in the market that cater to the use case you are trying to address? What the uniqueness of your product? Otherwise you would not attract anyone to work on equity or any investors.

Trying to get a number so I know how much to ask for

Since I know diddly about coding, I'll give you different advice: Have you don't the market research and actual research research behind your app (psychosocial research)? The market is pretty saturated, but if you have a good niche and solid research it can take off pretty quickly. I mean, look at Tinder. The research on profile images is huge and was largely neglected. Heck, I even did my undergrad thesis on perfections of manipulated images and another paper on how your Big 5 personality is reflected in your Facebook or MySpace profile back in the early 00s and some years later, boom, Tinder confirmed everything I said. A good empirically based design could put you ahead of the curve. What's your niche? Is it a trend you're going to ride or something else? There are a few big trends that you might find success in capitalizing on.

Orrrrrrr
You don’t worry about money, you approach bunch or college or university students. Tell them to work for free . But when you’ll grow. You can start paying them.
You’ll be giving them exposure to real market that way they are gaining something.

Or if you want more ideas dm me. MAYBE i can help you a lil

like

If you are not really teaching/mentoring an intern on skills that they do not have, then unpaid internships are exploitation. Not paying them for the work they already know but calling it giving them exposure to market is bullshit. Even if you are spending time or money to re-skill them, start paying them after that. None of us would take a salary cut when our companies send us for training or re-skilling. Right?

like

You definitely need a research discovery first to even see if there is a need for your product and what would it take to move people to use it over your competition.

I know a company that has created building blocks for apps and they create customized apps based on your requirements. DM me for more info

I run a software outsourcing firm. We have built dating app modules. Happy to help in discovering your use cases.

There is a consultant with 25k and no idea right there 👆🏼

Bro is thirsty and just wants an app he has some success in lol
