Small firm
@ PWC 1 in the words of our new fearless leader: Wrong. I worked just as many hours at 15 person firm as I do at EY. Busy season is part of the package. If there was a way around it other than getting pregnant and taking paternity/maternity leave during busy season dont you think eveyone would be doing it?
Come in at 6 am
Busy season is PA prime time... If you truly are sick of busy season you should consider looking at other options. Every firm has busy season. If you just need to leave by a certain time come in earlier. Small firms work like crazy and have less perks. Mid size, regional, and large local might have slightly less billable requirements than you have. The 75℅ option sucks unless you are at the level you want to stay for the rest of your career (SR mgr, director, partner) and is not truly a straight 75/75... Usually you get the pay cut but people expect more than 75℅ of the hours.
If you work more than 100% with your current position you're probably dumb enough to work more than 75% with your part time position,STA1
@op I'm in audit. My busy season is 55-60 hours a week. Out by 6 or 7 depending on client.
I second Indirect tax. Hours are 9-6. 8 the latest. Never weekends.
There are also reduced schedule positions at some firms...So for 75% the salary you can work 75% the hours. IDK how well it works. But it exists. We also just work less here at Moss.
Usually leave by 6 or 7 here at my national firm.
Seeeeeee^
What service line?
I'm done with audit

I used to work at a smaller firm and was out by 7 PM during busy season, I had friends at smaller firms who worked until 2 am......it depends on which smaller firm you go to
Don't just assume "because I'm in PA I have to work crazy hour"

Indirect tax
Look into transferring to advisory or consulting. It depends on the project but you could work less than audit.
Prob with indirect tax are the exit opportunities
One of my managers was on flex schedule, but even he was here late during busy season sometimes.
Trying to get some sort of work arrangement where you can work from home in the evenings if possible is the only solution i think - busy season is just part of the job.
Move out of Client Service into CBS position. 40 hr work week but less opportunity for promotion.
