No harm in asking! However when many people refer to sabbatical they are referencing a specific and laid out firm policy. If you’re a partner it could be a great opportunity to advocate for yourself while carving a path for others after you to do the same.
It’s not a bad idea because it’s what you need and I assume planned for it financially. Worst case scenario they say no and so you hand in your notice when you’re ready. Maybe you can negotiate an extended notice period for a severance package - if you’re up for it mentally.

Not a bad idea. Self care is important! Clearly, you need it. Be kind to yourself.

Maybe jump to worst case scenario and decide if it’s all that bad. You take the unpaid time off and you aren’t welcomed back (either literally terminated, or, all your work/clients are reallocated to others and you have to take on all new work). Would that be the end of the world? Or you’d be OK finding employment elsewhere? Seems more likely your firm would be Ok with it (though if they offer no paid maternity leave, they sound kinda suspect).
Cultures like the one you describe only become more open to the type of mental health/work-life balance you’re seeking if people in your position advocate for change. Encourage you to open the discussion at your firm.
