Nah I was just there for two weeks. Had no issues.

I don’t understand why there is so much drama in this bowl about Asians’ safety in NYC. I have been living here all my life and didn’t face a single incident so far. No city is 100% safe but NYC isn’t bad at all.
It's the media driving it. However, there's definitely more violent crimes overall being committed due to the "defund the police" movement and the mayor's bad policies.
Most people who are worried are probably people who have never grown up in a city so they're unfamiliar with all the crap that goes on.
It’s okay but I still am careful and on guard. I’ve lived here since October and was really on edge in the spring but think the added police and people recently have helped.
I’ll caveat that I don’t hang around late at night (I’ll take a cab or Uber from a restaurant/bar straight home vs taking public transit or walking if I’m out) and avoid the emptier/more corporate areas in Manhattan than haven’t really filled up yet
It's like being in any other inner city. Just be aware and alert of your surroundings. Don't make yourself look like an easy target and you should be fine... Was also just there 3 weeks ago.
Live here and stayed throughout covid. Feels fine! Am more careful though to not be on my phone / head down on the street and be aware of surroundings but all in all feel safe and running around like usual
It’s not great. Most of the violence is opportunistic through, so if you go, don’t go alone and use common sense.
It depends on the area. You might also get harassed without directly assaulted. Keep your wits about you and avoid shady looking people and you’ll generally be fine.
Yeah I just went on a short work trip. Got sucker punched in the face three separate times and got called a bunch of racial slurs every time I ordered lunch.
^lol like is that what you’re expecting to hear? It’s a big city there’s probably more murders in nyc than Asians being physically hurt due to the recent wave of violence
Lol who hurt you buddy.
I live here and I’ve been fine.
Just went it’s cool
