If you’re looking at remote case management - I would focus on patient teaching, care coordination, understanding of Medicare/Medicaid, discharge planning. They are usually looking for someone with the experience to help mange chronic conditions at home.
Have you tried to explore outside your field? It might be scary, but it is possible and rewarding. Invest some time in learning some skills, and go for it!
I am actually considering that as well. Thank you 😊
Depending on the role. You may have to tailor your resume a bit for the role. First decide what kind of remote work you want to do, there are a lot of case mgmt roles out there, and there are a few virtual nurse roles that involve clinical assessments, in a triage/dispatch kind of role. To do this you are going to need to research the role, and understand the desired skill sets. If it’s a triage/virtual nurse role you’re going to have to sell your assessment skills and ability to know when it’s time to advise medical care now (ED or send a nurse out), or advise them to call their PCP in the morning vs. care mgmt where you are looking more long term with chronic care mgmt. Remote work is a vehicle within a specialty. You need to sell yourself into the specialty first and then convince them you are so good at the specialty that you can do remote work. Make sense? Just landed a remote triage position in hospice, pivoting off of 2 years of oncall bedside work and a CHPN certification. I’ve also done care mgmt, with in a hospital but did not like that so I didn’t look for a remote position in that field.
Thank you. That’s great feedback and valuable insight.
