I was approached to write some radio spots for a small client.

This would be a small project on the side of my agency job. Nothing too crazy.

I have zero freelance experience and don't know what to charge!

Does anyone have a sense of a project rate for this type of work?

Charge a flat fee with some padding. That means, enough to be able to hire someone else as good as you do it while you still make a profit. Get everything in writing, scope, timeline, revisions, rights, etc. discuss money upfront before you begin solving their problem for free. Do not put your ideas down in an unpaid proposal and and ask for 50% deposit before you lift a finger. Discuss your fees on a call before you send the proposal. Say the price before you show it. Be confident and know your worth and charge accordingly. Let me know how it goes. Good luck!

Depends where you're located. I'm in LA and I know of Seniors making $1000/day. So ACDs make a good bit more. I assume you could just do a day rate for this.

helpful

$1200/day or $120/hour for ACD level. Don’t charge less. Your talent is valuable and they aren’t running a charity.

helpful

There are a few ways to figure out a rate, but the most basic one is as follows:

1.) How much do you need to clear in a month to cover everything you have to (bills, Adobe subscription, etc.)?
2.) Multiply that by 12.
3.) Divide that by 2080. This is your base hourly rate. Unless you're very new to the job, this will be lower than you want to ultimately charge.

Never go below your base rate. It is your floor. You can go up from there, but never down.

Now, generally speaking, to determine how much more you can charge than base, you want to look at a few things:
1.) How clearly defined are the goals and objectives? The less clear it is, the more you charge since you're likely to get caught in revisions for a while.
2.) Is the client known for working with freelancers or is this a one-off? How do other freelancers feel about the client? Rep is everything, so clients with bad reps get charged more. And if there's ever been a problem with pay, it's a minimum non-refundable deposit of 20% (most people will go higher than that).
3.) What's the iron triangle on this project? If the focus is on speed and price above all else, be wary of the project as a whole.

Ultimately, to avoid punishing yourself for efficiency, you'll want to charge a based on project, not based on hours. Why should you earn less for finishing early? That's just bad business.

Hi ,
I'm a Marketing student and was recently offered part time internship positiom on the marketing team of really cool FinTech Venture Capital company .During the final interview , I luckily asked for their pay range for interns and almost fell to the ground when he said $30/hr min. I would have said $18/$20 if I hadn't asked him instead .The average student earns between $15-$20 ...so it sounds really good but that's only an opening offer. Should I ask for a higher amount like $35 -$40?

I got an offer at Meta as a 3-mo contingent CSM that pays 2x what I make now.

Thoughts on leaving FTE for contract?

Two pros: 1) Making the jump from a non-tech agency role to FAANG can be tough, so this is a great oppo in that aspect.
2) I'm living in SF on a non-tech salary (thx, ad agencies), so the pay increase would be incredible.

It’s possible I could move into a similar role @ Meta once this expires, but to be safe, I'd need to start the job hunt again asap.

Received a job offer yesterday with a HUGE pay raise but the company’s PTO policy is less than desirable. With my current start date I’d only be getting 6 vacation days for the rest of the year.

Any advice on how to negotiate?

Hi all, I’d love to hear from PR/Comms folks about the process of transitioning from agency to an in-house role. What kind of chance does a PR pro with ~7 years of solid experience across CPG and hospitality brands, including a mix of global agency work and smaller boutique firms, have at going in house? Do you typically need more experience before going in house? Would be great to hear about various experiences from those that have made the transition. Thanks!
