I was asked to submit a writing sample by a firm I applied to. I fully briefed a case before an appellate court and I’d like to submit the briefs. However the matter is family/custody hence docket is not public. OK to submit and redact parties’ name throughout? What is standard procedure?

Yea and redact any information specific information that could be traced to said parties.

Like DOB, addresses, etc? Sounds good. Thanks!

I would check with your state's ethics board to see if just redacting would not break ethics rules. You could be breaching a few rules if, when you are redacting, you leave enough information for someone to figure out who the parties are. Specifically rules on confidentiality, and duties to former clients. I would check.

Call the ethics line for the bar.

I'm currently a medical scribe with background in risk analytics and business development(switched from finance to medicine) and currently trying to get into a clinical trial assistant role. Last year, I had spoke to professionals who say I have the skills and experience to join, but due to my lack of clinical experience, I was unable to join. Now after a year, I have 8 months scribing experience in a hospital.

How do I leverage this experience to break in now?

the main partner I work for hasn’t been giving me consistent enough work (or type I want) so while I work for him still on some deals, I’ve had to go and get other work from other partners. He doesn’t regularly check in on what I’m working on. He keeps volunteering me for projects without checking if I have capacity and if he expected to know everything I’m working on… he would’ve thought I was just doing nothing the last 2 months. I don’t know how to address this workload balancing with him!

Mid-level here. Has anyone gotten their firm to approve their doing work at a deep discount and, if so, what strategies did you use? A potential client approached me directly about a small matter (~20 to 30 hr amicus brief). The potential client (gov’t) pays a standard rate ~40% lower than mine, but I want to take on the project because it would be a good professional opportunity (e.g., high profile case & client) and of course the lower rate won’t affect my comp directly. 🤷‍♀️ All advice welcome!

The managing partner of my office likes to make jokes about Covid now that it is “over” (either in small group convos or speeches to the office).
