I was extended an offer over the weekend with a lateral firm. Along with the offer they provided a conflict checks form. I’m going to accept the offer, no doubt about it. But should I wait until some time after I submit the conflicts form and signed offer letter (i.e., a week) until providing my resignation with notice to my current firm? I originally intended submitting the signed offer and conflicts form Monday, then send out my resignation letter to my current firm right after.

Definitely wait until conflicts are cleared! You never know what might come up. Even if you’re confident it’s better to be safe.

When I lateraled my new firm specifically told me to wait to give notice until I passed conflicts. Just in case...

I’ve had an offer pulled because a client wouldn’t give me a conflicts waiver. Always wait.

Definitely wait. You don’t want to have any contingencies still outstanding when you give notice. Once you give notice, offer your firm 2 weeks to help transition your work and leave on a positive note.

Advice needed. My husband wants me to quit my transactional biglaw job in favour of something with more reasonable hours. We have a 2 year old and 4 year old. He says he’s tired of doing the heavy lifting at home and me not being present enough for him and the kids, and always being tired because so many nights I’m up working late. I’m 8 years in and feel like I’ve worked so hard to get where I am and beaten the odds. There are no women other than me with more than 1 child in my practice...
