I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

OP
It's totally up to you if you want to share the reason or not, and I believe most folks who asked (including myself) were with no bad intention. Just trying to know the context a bit better to offer help. Totally fine if you don't feel like disclosing it.
Meanwhile, maybe still let us know what career direction are you interested in and what efforts have you made so far so that people with relevant skillset or coming from that field (consulting? financial? tech? etc.) can help :)
@Boston Consulting Group 1, trust me...I am currently delivering pizzas for Dominos to help with the bills. Truly humbling experience, but I don’t feel that it is beneath me. Not going to lie, I definitely cried and had a mental breakdown after my first day because I did feel that it was beneath me for a moment.
It will all work out in the end. It’s only temporary. You have the drive to do better. Call me if you need to vent❤️🙂
If it helps I’ve been fired from every job I ever had but the next one was always a level up. Don’t have to share why, and don’t have to discount any of the experience you got while at Accenture.
Also don’t be ashamed to step back and do something you feel is ‘beneath you’ to keep the cash flow going. You’ll be humbled and seem less desperate in job interviews because you can still put food on the table.
Honestly, focused negative energy into something productive like working out. That’s how I dealt with off kilter brain chemistry since I didn’t have insurance. Got in great shape which probably improved how I was seen in interviews. Also used that time to humble myself and not be so self assured.
Really no secret - this was a >6 month process. You just shoot 1000 free throws and eventually you’ll make 1. I just got really lucky.
Everyone asking why are you fired is really irrelevant to a job search

M1 is hyper focused on the OP's lack of employability! The all-knowing manager
Edit: wish I had saved their comment
Addressing the reason you were fired could help you get hired. Can you shed some more light?
A large function of job search for the past 3 months is COVID, so bad timing
Why were you fired ?
I have used the time since I was fired to start my own company. I have gained so many skills and have come out so much stronger than I was before, but I don’t feel that I have the financial security that I need right now. My company has pretty much become self-sufficient at this point, and I feel that I would definitely be able to maintain it and be able to work a demanding, full-time job. Heck, I’ve done it before! I am desperately seeking some consistency and stability right now, and I just know that if another company you were to give me a chance, they would see that I am a great employee with a killer work ethic and great enthusiasm to give my all again.

It sounds like you have a lot of passion for running your own company, OP. How far are you from making it stable enough to do full time? What would you need to change to achieve this? Is it positioned to survive through the economic stress of COVID-19?
You might challenge yourself to see if you can grow it.
Can you share more about the company? I am some bit surprised that you could run a new company and hold consulting job at the same time.
um can you help us analysts know how not to get fired? may have been a gift in disguise, seems like you’re getting a lot more out of life

You don't have to disclose being fired.
Did they put it as they fired you or you just quit?
Hey OP sorry to hear. I would on any online application put layoff for reason no longer employed. Some systems will auto reject you for firing and Accenture won’t disclose why you are no longer w the firm.
Especially if you’re interviewing at another major firm, be prepared for the tough questions as they know what a “lay-off” can be disguised as.
It’s a tough time but keep trying and something will come up
OP
Sorry to hear that.
But we'll need a little bit more context to help or give advice. Like why are you fired? Low chargeability or something else? What do you want to do? Like what jobs (field) have you been applying to? etc.
Thanks all for the responses. I don’t want to disclose the full reason for my being fired on this forum, but it is associated with my contract. I’ve been looking for consulting roles in my area, but there really aren’t any at the moment. I have applied to several industry positions that I feel I was qualified for, but was rejected from all of them. I wonder if large companies have software that immediately weeds out any applicants that have marked in their application that they have been fired from a job (this is often a question on a lot of job applications).
My previous experience is in technology and project management, and I would love a role in project management.
Companies will only confirm dates of employment, else they can be sued for defamation, look it up in google
DM me if you need to chat
Look at the other management consulting companies. Switching between them is common. Odds are your experience will be better as will your pay.
Accenture is temp agency & contract ended so the end client stopped paying them to employ you.
Most tech jobs have a duration in intervals of 3 months up to 2 years. (Like 3, 6, 9, 12, .. 24 months). The recruiters will tell you full time which means W2 avoids legal issues. Recruiters will also make suggestions like you took a break or learned something. Its only an issue if you ever consider leaving the temp consulting industry due to realizing they can't line up the projects, similar a music concert tour.
