I would be really reluctant to go down a level. Most firms are so desperate for seniors they don’t have much negotiating power.
What would be a realistic salary to ask for/expect to be offered if I go in as a senior at one of the big 4? Assuming just 2 months exp as a senior so far
Don’t discount your experience. Push to be a senior. If they want to demote you to move then just wait or apply to another big 4.
B4 firms always need seniors so badly, they will hire you on as one easy peasy. You will be bored as an experienced staff. I made a similar transition.
You should be able to get hired as a senior. I wouldn’t move if it means going down a level. And I def would never move for a pay cut
Second everyone here saying you should consider taking senior role, if not PWC the other B4. You’ll operate as acting senior anyway so why not becoming a real one and have higher pay
Titles do not mean the same from firm to firm. Changing titles moving between firms is not a demotion. Benchmark your skills and better to start too low than too high. You will be paid based in your peer group. If you going in on lower level ask to be paid as a tier 1. If there is a gap in current pay ask for signing bonus for difference.
Would it be worth it to wait a year and apply as a senior? I'm leaning towards the experienced staff route as I'm assuming expectations will be a lot lower for me
Apply as senior now
I don’t think so I have seen offered 83 for experience staff , the person only did few mths of internship in tax then rest working as fund admin , u can def asked for more!
I'd think you have enough experience to come in as a senior. Agree with others title isn't a big deal but don't take a drop in pay. If you can keep your pay as and enter a staff 2 you'll be in a great spot a year later.
