I was just speaking with a couple of coworkers who told me they see doctors who don’t take insurance. Why would anyone do that? Is this just a flex?

Some do for convenience and perceived higher quality of care I guess. Companies like ro and roman exist just to sell marked up drugs so it’s pretty common

like

Long-standing relationship, quality of care, needing continuity or certain specialty, trust, insurance changed and no longer covers… I did it with a GP for a while, and did it with a therapist too

like

I’ve also encountered this with therapy. The doctors may not take insurance but you can submit for reimbursement if you have a FSA. I imagine using HSA funds may work the same

Not a flex at all. I think it boils done to what type of care they need/prefer. As EY1 said, there’s a slew of mental health professionals that don’t take insurance.

One of my Lyme doctors didn't take insurance but there are a lot of politics and risks for the LLMDs (Lyme literate doctors) that do. I.e. some have lost their practices for treating chronic Lyme.

Why/how?

My therapist and my dentist both don’t take insurance. It’s pretty common for both those specialties in NYC. The higher end doctors don’t need to and so they just don’t… which sucks.

When I first moved here I had three recommendations from people and none of them took insurance. And now I love my dentist, he’s excellent, so here I am 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m able to get some of the costs reimbursed though as long as I have out of network coverage

Just pay the dentist and then submit reimbursement from your insurance company

Building off a thread from a few days ago on how long you waited to consultant an RE. If I am under 35 and have not been trying for 12 months, do I need to spin it to my doctor like I have? It seems bad to not give my doc the real info but I also don’t want to be turned away and I think I’ve heard you have to tell them it’s been 12 mo to get insurance to cover it. Any insight?

What are peoples opinions on work from home? It seems to be an unpopular opinion but as a junior I despise it. I work 3 feet from my bed, I find the barriers of a phone/email between me and a senior to add a huge amount of stress to my life and I think it’s stunting my career development at my firm because I can’t build relationships as effectively. I’ve never at all had mental health issues before but now am really starting to feel burnt out and anxious most of the time. What do you think?
