The mantra of a true creative
don’t say anything. people thought we’d be “back to normal” in June ... accept the job, crush it and then you’ll have more leverage when and if you move bc they won’t want to lose you.
I wouldnt say anything now. Things can change over the next 5 months
Seriously? First of all, you haven't even "officially" decided to move, so why would you tell anyone? Second, make yourself invaluable at your job so your company won't care where you're working from. It'll be easier for them to accept you working remotely when they see what you bring to the party.
When you interviewed, did they position it as “remote for now”, or just “remote” full stop. If they offered as “remote for now,” with the assumption that you’d be available in office whenever things reopen, that may make your conversation a little harder. Definitely doable since there are so many unknowns right now and timelines feel like a farce, but you’ll need to build confidence very quickly in your new role. I’d probably take it, crush it, and then have the conversation later. Good luck!
Remote for now. Definitely appreciate your perspective as I agree. It’s a risk to wait but I’m sure even when people are “back” in the office there will be a slow phased approach and I’m hopeful I can find a way to make it work with them.
What did you decide to do? I’m in a very similar position, except we already moved. It’s very hard to find work in media where I moved and I don’t want to give up a viable job offer, but I also don’t want to uproot our life when we have to go back to the office. Could use someone to empathize with!
I’m planning to accept and prove myself with a few months of working remotely and then come dec/January-ish, I’ll discuss the best way to work remote long term. I may be able to offer up monthly trips to the office if needed. I figure worst case they decide they need someone local, I stay on until they find another person and than I can look for other work, but this would at least give me the opportunity to try and prove that I can successfully do the job even when I’m not in the office.
No way accept and see where life brings you
