I was looking to start a career in consulting after I graduate this winter but I'm afraid I don't have much relevant experience. I did start my own company but no other real work experience. Is it enough to just speak on my school projects or should I start somewhere else?

For your first job experience doesn’t matter as much as your genuine interest in the job. Have good reasons why you want to be in consulting at that specific company. Also, have examples where you showed character traits or skills that would be transferable to the job description.

I second this! There are plenty of candidates who have experience but are less than ideal. Having a genuine interest and great character shines through every time.

You really don't need experience for your first job and I would argue starting your own business is very unique experience that will set you apart from other recent grads. I work in consulting and would love to connect. Please feel free to message me directly.

Started your own company?? In what industry/division? If you have funding/backing/financial support doing your own thing and seeking out your vision, I'd recommend doing that. Could be worth the gamble if you have the right people around you.

Internship experience is good but not necessarily imperative. If you cab be passionate about why you want to be in consulting in a cover letter, I'd think any hiring manager would at least consider you for an interview.

It sounds like starting you own company is a pretty big deal. What kind of company? How can your work on your company translate into relevant experience -- look for any connections at all!

You'll never know unless you try. Experience is an advantage but it is not a requisite to get the job. All you really need to have is the skills and the knowledge and a really good resume or application letter. Joining consulting groups or clubs will help you a lot too. Build your network and start it as early as possible.

What year are you? I would start seeking internships. They will look good on your resume and help you figure out what you want to do.

How about an internship? You can also use that. But I personally think that starting your own business is already a plus :)

Hello all,
I am looking to start my career as Machine learning engineer. I am currently attending school on Data Analytics and I have one year work experience which is not relevant to machine learning. Can you please guide me how to land a job as Machine Learning Engineer.

Consulting accepts people from all background! You don’t need to have relevant work experience, you just need to somehow find a way to tie the transferable skills from the school projects you do have to consulting such as team work, project management, etc.

Guys I’m in a big dilemma and needs your advise
Last week I got my PR invitation for Canada for which I’ve been working and waiting for years and….
Today I’ve received an offer from McKinsey after months of preparation and achieving my dream

Canada - No job there as of now
McK - extremely good package

If I choose either I need to drop the other

Now I feel completely lost to go with which option and would really appreciate if you all can share your two cents on this. Thanks

Trying to book Hyatt with points for the first time but the room I wanted (21k points a night) is no longer available on the site. There’s one with 36k points a night but obviously way more expensive and not ideal

I feel like no but is there a way to book the 36k and then downgrade/get a refund if a 21k room becomes available again? Tried asking an agent but they just said they weren’t sure

If that’s the case should I just book the 36k or are the odds a 21k becomes available again high?
