Denver shops you envy?
Hi Fishies! (Is that what we are? I’m going with it)
I just came across a Google Research and Insights role that got me SUPER excited and I was about to apply when I had the idea of seeing if anyone would be willing to give me a referral. I understand (and respect) that most of you Googlers on here feel that a referral is only useful if you know the person but I would be happy to jump on the phone to give you some info about me. It would mean so much! 4 YOE at a major audio steaming service

Any book recommendations for GC of a startup?
Any in-house counsel in here willing to post their company, level or YOE, and total comp breakdown? If you’re comfortable, please consider posting both your current stats and what your stats were when you first moved in-house. If there’s any other information that you want to share, please include that too (e.g., hours, interesting perks, etc.). Info on in-house salaries is pretty hard to come by, and it would be great to compile some data points here! Facebook Amazon Google Netflix Apple

Well...in house salaries and biglaw salaries are at their biggest disconnect ever. 10-20% of base is a reasonable ask. You can stay in biglaw and get that bonus, of course. It's a bad look to ask for more than your DGC, GC or CLO makes because "biglaw would have paid as much."

I didn't, but a) didn't know to ask; b) i was hired in early Dec and told to take 2 weeks for the holiday instead of starting in Jan and c) we've hired several senior members of my legal team and they've gotten signing bonuses (but they came from industry _after_ their yearly bonuses hit and would not ask for a six figure bonus). You could postpone your jobsearch.
It doesn't hurt to ask for a small amt.
But my point stands: asking to be paid out of what you are leaving behind is not a thing. You can stay in biglaw or leave and also leave expectations like that behind. You're still thinking in terms of biglaw margins. Most industries don't have margins like that and cant afford things like 100K bonuses for associate level hires.
I don’t remember “cash cow bonus” line items on any of my big law invoices recently. I’ll have to double check. Congrats though if you get it.

Datapoint: I used my year-end bonus to negotiate an equivalent signing bonus ($50k), but that was during Q4. You should try to use it to move the margins on base and sign-on. Material signing bonuses aren’t unheard of for big public tech cos.
This is helpful. Thank you! My firm’s year end is in Q3, I’ll be sure to mention that.
$100 is a lot, in some markets you could earn thousands ….
