I was recently promoted. I received a new job title and a raise. $120k to $150k However, my company has defined salary bands for each level and the band for my level is $175k-$250k. I want to be grateful, but also feel like my salary should be within the defined band. Should I speak up and say something, or just be grateful for what I have. Is it normal to be paid less than the define pay band?

This is what in the HR world calls a compression issue and if the company was really valuing its people it would do a pay equity review. It’s also why the best way to get pay raises is to jump employers. All in all, yes you should def say something and ask- frame it as you approaching with curiosity rather than demanding a response. How they respond to you should reveal and signal what would be best for you and your next steps. Good luck

Speak up. Ask.

You need to be in the right band. Say something. You will forever be fighting this battle if you don’t get things right on the front end.

like

Review the qualifications of the band. Then apply a % to each metric you meet and scale it to where you fall into place based on qualifications. Reach for the $250 mark. What is the worst that can happen? They promoted you because you are qualified. Make them pay you for your qualifications. If it was someone from off the street they would be paid, and to top it off the company would have to train. You have the foundation. You’re essentially saving them money.

I agree with the above, though also keep in mind that many companies would almost prefer hiring a new employee at a higher salary it seems. Definitely ask about it, but do so from a position of humility rather than power. If you go I'm there demanding a raise, you may find yourself updating your resume sooner rather than later.

Hi guys,

My current company laid off my complete team (including myself) few days back. I've managed to crack an interview at a MNC but the HR is unwilling to give me more than 10% increment on my current salary since I joined my current company only 6 months back.

Do y'all think I should accept the offer and secure a job first without thinking too much about negotiation? And then maybe try to find better offers?

A couple of weeks back someone posted a success story and mentioned they can write a book about salary negotiation experience. I thought that was exaggerated. Now, I can write my own book. 😂 Why should it be so stressful? I am pretty sure a company like Google can simplify this. If they are so particular about “negotiating”, they can create a web page and update numbers back and forth?!

I want to come to Amdocs from EPAM with few months of experience, currently SDE2. I do have some questions, though.
1. How does EPAM compare to Amdocs? Regarding the job satisfaction, projects, Permanent WFH, etc.
2. This company is, in my opinion, one of the best for growth and high-quality projects. Can someone vouch to this?
3. I would appreciate it if you could recommend SDE2, SDE3, or both.
4. What should a reasonable CTC expectation be?
I am eager for your help and support. 🥰

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

Hello everyone,

I currently work at a company that I really enjoy but can no longer afford to live on the salary. I have worked in the position for almost a year. Should I ask for a raise and explain that I can’t continue to work there due to the salary or just move on and try to find another role?
