Fluent contractor here, or what less-enlightened minds tend to refer to as, a “job hopper.” Not only is Netflix known to have highly appealing TC packages; but they are, without a doubt, a great company. However, bare in mind that even the best companies out there have short sighted people working for them. It’s inevitable, especially for an entity the size of Netflix. If a certain team of an organization flat out rejects an otherwise qualified candidate based on what you describe (and it’s certainly happened to me), than simply put: that’s not where you want to be to begin with. I used contracts and consultancies to expose myself to / accrue a vast array of cross-industry experience, deep domain knowledge, and ultimately broaden what has become a diverse, yet acutely refined, pallet of skills. Skills that have enabled me to have my pick when it comes to companies I want to work for or jobs I want. It’s safe to say you’ve done the same. So don’t dismay. It’s merely a numbers game in the grand scheme. Just try again for different roles in different departments, until you find the right fit, which will be a team that sees your multi-faceted work background for the vital asset that it is.

Thank you for your kind words.

Also depends on your competition for the same job. Maybe someone else with 7 years of experience showed up. I see hiring as a number game. More you apply, more chance to land a good job. :)

I agree. It’s more about the best possible fit out of the pool of applicants, rather than if you’re qualified or not.

I'm not a consultant but I can understand how that would be frustrating. I'm sorry that happened.

I've been judged on everything. Too much of something, too little of the same exact thing, etc, etc. I had one company look down on me for having more than one project going in the same time period.

I'm confident that I'm a better developer having worked those 4 projects than if I had spent 4 years working working on only one of those projects.

Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

Hi guys, I am due to start working at EY soon within audit. I will be commuting to the office by train when in the Birmingham office. This will be from Leicester. Usually if a commute is about 1.5 hours+, Mazars authorises hotels. Is there a similar policy at EY? When not in the office I would prefer to drive to clients, not sure if me being in Leicester affects whether they will tell me to suck up an extended commute? Would a mileage claim be from the office to the client? Thanks!

Need some advice - been at the D for a year and have been on the same implementation project for over a year. Have a technical background and am thinking of starting to look for exits to industry but also am curious what strategy projects are and if I would be interested in the work. I need opinions on this. Just started a new PM role (at an IPG agency) last month but I recently got hit up by a recruiter from another agency (WPP agency) for a pretty enticing PM role on a 360 AOR account. Further context: The PM role I'm in currently is my first PM role ever (I came from an entry level AE/Producer backgrund) I know jumping ship for the other PM role would look terrible but tell me why you would OR would not jump ship?
