But you get return on investment and clothes do not provide this
To delve into this further my dog is dying. I raised her as a puppy. She is my everything.
My cat is dying and she’ll have to be put down soon. So I understand. I think you have to get some counseling about loss to help you through this grieving process and not spend money frivolously. I got some mental health coaching and that has helped.
Yep. Move to a new faraway country with lots of excitement and no Amazon.
I’m not even a Prime member. I don’t see the big deal about Amazon.
I second the cash recommendation. I went through some depressive spending over the last year too. Nothing crazy, but sometimes I’d buy stuff just to feel something or have something to look forward to coming in the mail. Try channeling your energy into something else that can help fill the void. Maybe volunteer at a shelter or look into helping animals in need. I’m sorry to hear about your pup - it’s not easy
Make it less convenient. Close Amazon account and whatever you go to for that quick hit... Makes it easier to stop and think before impulse buys.
Pull out the exact amount you will let yourself spend. An amount in cash. Also, put the exact amount “extra” you’ll let yourself spend on your credit card. When the money is gone it is gone.
Therapy is helpful to know why. But in the meantime, limit the damage by limiting the amount you spend. Big difference between blowing $50 a month or blowing $2000.
I’ve been doing the same during manic episodes (I’m just diagnosed with bipolar). I read that depressed individuals are ~2x more likely to have depression as a co-occurring disorder, while bipolar ones are 7x more likely. It helped me understand the scope of my issue better and motivated me to schedule a psychiatric consultation. I was on anti anxiety meds for years but never resolved shopping addiction (lucky that family is wealthy so it wasn’t a huge problem). But I’m motivated to FIRE on my own and being honest with myself about my condition is the first step to fixing it/getting myself back on FIRE track.
How do you buy? Online?
Typically— or in person. It just depends on the situation.
Just exercise every time you want to buy something or buy an etf!
I’m training for a full marathon and I can’t stop buying gear! 😂
