I was told that I was the chosen candidate for a new role that I applied for which will be promotion, I just recently received my offer and was surprised and decided to start negotiating. My boss immediately said that this is offer, either take it or lose it and no negotiating, and was only given a day to decide whether I want it or not, so he repost the position, and was also told that I was going about it the wrong way for trying to negotiate, Is this wrong of me to negotiate?

Absolutely not. I feel like negotiation is totally normal. Was what you wanted to be paid WAY above what they offered or something?

Thank you for your message, The reason for me negotiating is because after doing my research and discovering my market valve I have discovered that I’m undervalued and underpaid compared to my new peers in my current role. I just got an offer for a promotion and through this would be the perfect opportunity to ask for an increase because with the offer that he give me for my promotional increase it’s still wouldn’t beat what my current peers are making in my current role which means I’m getting a promotion but still making the same thing as a person that’s a level under me. After going back-and-forth with my boss I was told that the most he can do was start the process on what’s called a “salary equity evaluation” but also mention that I most likely won’t get much out of that and he wanted me to commit that I would take the role regardless on what they come back with on that evaluation.

Definitely not wrong to negotiate: you know your worth. What would have been the "right" way to go about it? Not negotiate, keep your mouth shut, and accept low pay? That only benefits one party in this scenario, and it isn't you.

Thank you for your feedback I’m definitely not staying quiet, but it kills me that they’re making me feel like I’m doing something wrong.

Red flags all around, in my opinion.

I'm sorry you experienced that, negotiation should never be unacceptable, and you should also be given more than a day!

I totally agree and that’s why I put my foot down but even with that they’re making me feel like I’m doing something wrong.

Have you had any issues with your boss prior to this?

like

This seems...intense and quite frankly, really demanding. Hope you are able to handle it OP, sorry you're going through this!

That is weird. Is it completely normal to negotiate and especially in SALES where this our job, they should be expecting it, even if they can't budge on the number.

Was extended an offer for SC position at a smaller consulting firm. Originally asked for 130K base, offer given was closer to ~110K base with ~10K in performance bonus. When countering with desired 125K base, due to other opportunities, base was raised to 115K. Would be happier with 120K base, but is it worth pushing for?

It seems like there’s a huge range of salaries for “art directors” even within the same city... Does anyone have insight to what range I would be looking at (overall range, lower end of range because I’m a junior currently?). I have been working consistently for 2.5 years since I’ve been out of school, but I’ve worked several part time/freelance jobs and have had several internships throughout schooling years too (total EXP = 6 years?). Would be jumping ship, not an internal promotion. Thanks!
