I was told to eat hours today, so that I bill less than 40 hours this week. Has anyone else experienced this before; is there anyway I can push back on this?

Look up your policy, bring it up to your project lead and say you’re uncomfortable going against it.

Do you ever put 8 hours when you haven’t actually worked 8 to just put in your 40? Call it a wash

likehelpful

no. literally. in 5 years. never. I assure you I'm fun. I also know some rules aren't worth breaking. now 3xcuse me while I drink my 4th margarita

funny

I have been asked to eat hours. The MD was not doing well at the firm, and wanted to increase his utilization at the expense of mine. It’s a no-win situation. Try not to work with that person again.

Make that hotline bling

Call the Ethics hotline. This is a NO NO in finance, and we need people that are experiencing this to speak up. Otherwise we don’t know this is happening.
OP leaders know this is wrong and will be on your side.

Wow this says so much about big D. Retaliation is a huge offense here.

Happens all the time at P Dubs. Partners can’t estimate, won’t push back on the clients and view staff as tools in a toolbox that can be replaced for little effort when they’re worn out

like

Depends on your level. If M or higher it happens and can be not a big deal given lower util targets. If SC or below that sucks and if happens more than once or twice I'd have a convo with either the project or your counselor to ensure you aren't on a path to get screwed for YE.

This is for commercial, have heard GPS actually follow policies sorta.

like

If commercial and below SM deff talk to your coach (kind of okay for M but still should get some guidance / make sure they are aware). Not sure if it’s better to ask over phone or email.

You shouldn’t do this. Your staff it will take a hit if they don’t match (you say you’re doing 40 beginning of week, you actually bill less, you may get an email asking why).

like

You only get an e-mail for variance if the difference is significant. If it’s a couple hours, staffit won’t take a hit. Consider it a wash unless this happens frequently

typical deloitte. I ate hours every week when I was there and was actually asked by leadership to do that. Glad I quit.

Yeah. Call that hotline and share with us how well that works out for you..

If leadership wants you to not bill more than 40 hours then they need to tell you at the beginning of the project, month or week. That way you actually limit your billable to 40. Next time they tell you that, tell them to just not pass it onto the client. (Try and have your reviews in before you pull this one off ;-). If you want to f with them, ask them to send the request by email.

tell your portfolio lead.

I got laid off in January and have been trying to find a new job since. I keep making it to the phone interview and sometimes a second interview, but always get ghosted. It’s so disheartening.

I have too much experience for an internship, and I have too little to be the top choice for copywriter roles. I know I’m a good writer, I know what I’m capable of, but it’s so exhausting trying to convince people. They always like my book but it’s never enough to get the gig. What can I do?
