I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me figure out if I’m getting a decent offer for a job? It’s for a content strategist role at a small agency in Chicago. I don’t have experience in the specific job role but I do have certifications + skills that would be relevant for the position. The offer is 50k salary w/ benefits but I’m not sure if I should attempt a salary negotiation as I’ve never done one before. I would have to move into the city and it just doesn’t sound feasible.

Always negotiate, never take the first offer, and do your research on what other people are getting paid for the position. $50k does sound low for living in a city. Do you know how high your rent would have to be if you moved? Do you know what percentage of your take home income that would be and what you'd have left to buy food with, enjoy life with, and save for the future?

Just keep in mind if you ask for $60k they will try to give you $55k. Shoot higher than you would be willing to accept. Good luck!

They also mentioned yearly bonuses based on performance but I don’t like to factor in uncertain income

My Current co offered me a salary below the market range and I have got it to their notice but finding tough luck in asking them to give me the industry standard range..

I am exploring new roles and when I tell new co abt my expected salary (as per current market standards) they find excuses to not consider the bump and say “ Oh we can give from your current sal “ any tips on how to negotiate and match my pay (as per industry standards) as I don’t want to be underpaid..

Thanks!

Tried to negotiate but Accenture is not willing to change base. They added 10K in RSU and Joining to make 40 each.
