I was wondering if someone can help me clarify the PA requirements for taking the CPA Test. I have a Bachelors degree in Economics, but no Accounting credits. I was wondering if my 36 credits in ECON, Finance, Business Law classes will qualify me to sit for the test? I fully understand I need 150 for the license, plus 12 accounting credits which I plan on pursuing after passing the tests. The NASBA site says you need 24 credits in the above but it’s not specific.

The easiest thing would be setup a meeting with a graduate accounting advisor where you got you degree or setup a meeting at nearest university. Take your current transcripts with you and they will walk you through the process, needed classes and credits.
A1, to become CPA you need two requirement. One is education, usually 150 credit with certain amount of accounting credits but this may differ based on your state. Second, experience requirement where you need to work in PA or work with/for a CPA. One cannot substitute for another. So your experience no matter how much does not substitute for education requirement.
When you setup the meeting with a graduate accounting advisor, tell them that you have a degree in so and so and looking to get required accounting credits to become CPA so they can set you up with relevant advisor. Good luck guys 😊

Thanks! I know in PA there are two girls at my firm that just passed all 4 tests. They have Accounting degrees. They were able to sit for the test, but they are not “official” CPAs until they attain the 150 credits. They told me to take the tests first...in case they change the requirements. Then finish the credits needed. I just wasn’t sure how it worked if you didn’t have an Accounting degree. I did find out my credits (listed above) will count. When I finish my 150 credits (I have 129), I need 12 specifically in Accounting.

I’m a CPA with a BA in Econ and an MS in finance. You don’t need an accounting degree, as long as you satisfy the requirements you mentioned.

The requirements vary slightly by state, but the state board (or NASBA?) should be able to tell you whether a class counts towards one of the “buckets”

Hi there,
I graduated from college with a major in Economics & Math in 2013. Since then I have gained 7 years of professional experience in Tax Accounting in financial services firms and in public accounting.
In Massachusetts, where I live, I think I still need 150 accounting credits to be able to sit for exam? I am not sure how to obtain those or if my 7years of professional experience will be sufficient, allowing me to sit for CPA exam.

Thanks In Advance!! I appreciate your help as I am not sure who can help me with finding the answer to this question.

This is what I saw online. Just want to clarify as an non-accounting grad if I am good to sit for the exam.

How much of being successful at MBB comes from pure intelligence vs effort/strong work ethic? I know a combination of the two is important but just wondering if anyone has noticed this play out at their firm.

It often seems that hard work can take you a lot further than natural talent and I’m wondering if that holds true at MBB.

anybody in the UX/product design/interaction design field go to grad school for it? what programs do you recommend?

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Side hustle or startup ideas for someone who isn’t technical/doesn’t code? Where should I look or where to begin? I don’t have any strong passions or specific skills that I’m confident in. What books, articles, blogs, orgs, events, people I should follow for inspiration that has helped you? I have some cash to invest and am looking for a part time hustle that can cash flow at least a little bit of money on the side.

Should I renege offer from MBB?

An MBA recent grad. I signed with MBB last year. However, I have always wanted to do tech PM. I couldn’t find PM job in Fall and just signed MBB offer I have. I recently got an FAANG offer. It’s PM function, hard to break in with consulting experience. I declined the new offer during interview stage and again after they gave me initial offer, but it is coming back with 80k more in annual compensation. It made me so torn!! Should I renege MBB offer?

Hi, I finished my onsite last week and recruiter reached out today saying we’re finalizing the interviews with candidates for the role , and should be in a position to make a final decision on who to progress with by end next week. I am assuming they meant progressing to HC. Does that mean I didn’t do as bad so as not to be outright rejected and not great to move to HC directly :(
