Possibly some internal communication to them. Could be anything. For example
• they found out your salary or day rate and got jealous
• some wide project issue was communicated to them and they think you are somehow involved (like if another team got something wrong or even if a previous project went badly and that was brought up).
• Another colleague could have cautioned them to not get too close to consultants as they are an external resource and should only be told what they need to know.
