The book is fantastic. Subtle, insightful.

I’m currently an IB analyst at a no name shop in LA. I’m employed as a 1099 and I currently get 70k/year + 5% of deal fees I’m staffed on. This makes my all in extremely variable as I made 210K in ‘19 and 70k in ‘20. We let someone go this year and I asked for a raise and he bumped me up to to that 5% from 4%. However we just signed up 4 new clients, which would greatly increase my workload as I’m the only junior guy. Would it be messed up to ask him to bump me to 100k base or I quit?

I’m a manager/technical architect making 155. I had a boutique reach out and ask for comp range. I said 180 flexible and they immediately ended the convo. Is 180 really that crazy for boutiques? Is getting your CFP worth the investment? I am in my 30s and plan on staying in this industry as an FA until I retire. Lately I’ve been getting asked if I offer any fee-only options and I know you can’t be fee-only unless you’re a CFP... Do we see the industry headed this way?
