I think I first saw that in a maya angelou book in high school, something like “don’t be surly at home and then smile at strangers on the street.” For some reason that really stuck out to me when i read it and it’s been something I’ve tried to do: save my best energy for people I care about.
Yes SM1, that sounds right on
Being nice and positive to strangers all day (anyone he came into contact with), but not his own wife. She was upset why he didn’t try to maintain the same energy with her when he came home. He only used her as a sounding board and only shared with her the worst part of his days.
I see a lot of posts on IG about potential divorces because of too much travel etc. Perhaps this could be one avenue worth looking into. When you return home from the long week, do you express excitement to see them? Do you attempt to maintain positive energy throughout the few days you’re together? Do you ask them questions about their week with the same excitement you ask your clients the same question?
Food for thought!
I genuinely am excited to see my SO when I come home. It’s the best part of my week. We share stuff about our days, positive and definitely negative, but it’s usually more in a lighthearted manner (eg you’ll never believe this)
What is IG?
I agree with the sentiments though - try to do that with my spouse as much as possible
I misspoke in the post and meant to say “i see a lot of talk of divorces on here (fishbowl)” not IG
