Yes you’re crazy

A6: my (and I think others’) perspective is that if you’re bored at work but you’re working steady hours and have a life, you can get that excitement elsewhere
I should add: I took about a 50% pay cut when I moved and the $$$ is not an insignificant factor in the desire to return.
I left BL and was at a regional firm with 1800 expectation. Even at 1800 the delta was too great (over $100k before bonus) not to go back to BL and bill 2100+. I’ve been back more than 1 year.

Pick up a side hustle if you’re looking to fill time. Take a bet on yourself.

Only boring people are bored

Unhelpful and wrong
Left big law litigation, went in house for 2 years, was bored out of my mind and hated it, went back to litigation at a small firm, no regrets! I know at least 1 other person with a similar experience.

Idk man find a hobby. Read, do some art, volunteer. There are so many valuable ways to use the extra time you have.

May I ask what kind of company you’re at and what you do? I’m at FAANG and would love to switch to an in-house role that is less intense and allows for more “free” time throughout the day (ie, can run to an appointment or just chill while being “available” during normal work hours).

Hi A8 — don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for this opportunity, especially coming from my lit background. However, the older I have gotten, the more I have settled into my Type B personality. I don’t like to be stressed out, I don’t like to be anxious or otherwise constantly working. I enjoy a slower pace, and not always been on demand or call. I know, I didn’t really pick a great career for that, but I blame the poor kid who saw that first years could make $160k after law school and jumped at the chance. Now, I just want to take it easy. I’d be happy making like $175 for wonderful WLB.
Also — to answer your question directly, I find my job to be stressful/intense. I don’t think everyone would feel that way, but it’s a little too much pressure and demand for what I want.
I see people going back to biglaw from in-house all the time. Some just need a break from the hustle and then feel recharged, some are like you and feel bored of how slow it is and want that pace again given the pay, some left because of family obligations that may not factor in as much (maybe children are now older and more independent). Whatever it is, it happens often and I’ve seen plenty of friends.
That said, if it’s just boredom, try and think about how you were feeling when you were in biglaw. We’re you generally happy? Why did you leave for in-house? If it’s boredom, there’s something legitimately to people telling you to find a hobby or some form of self-actualisation that isn’t work. But if you’re asking if you’re crazy: you’re not. People do it frequently
But what if I’m in big law and I’m bored

This is why I’m scared to go in house. I admit I’m a psychopath but I thrive on the energy of biglaw

What’s your home life situation and how do you envision it changing in the next 2-10 years?

If you have a book waiting for you when you get back i think it totally makes sense. Otherwise there are far too many litigators out there for the number of clients
