I went in-house 3 years ago. At the time, I was interviewing with 2 companies. One company was a much better cultural fit for me and I was 1 of 2 finalists. But they chose the other applicant. I got the other job and have been there ever since. The work is ok,but I still struggle with company culture daily. 3 years later, the original job that I wanted has been reposted. Reach out to the GC directly to show interest? Is it worth moving from a comfy job just bc I think the culture will be better?

Apply for That job. Apply for every job.

Worst case scenario is you get rejected from the job again, and then you know it wasn’t meant to work out. In any case you keep your interview skills sharp and get a chance to see how much your worth on the open market if they make you an offer. Hopefully every question that I get asked today is this easy.

What harm in contacting them to discuss?

Absolutely. Reach out. Even if you don’t get this new job, it sounds like you need a change!!

I followed your advice, reached out to the GC directly, and GOT THE JOB!!! Thanks everyone for the encouragement!

I agree - might as well ping the GC and gauge her response.

You will probably have several more jobs in your career. I have always found that a liberating idea.

One thing to consider: every job has its “warts.” When comparing the new opportunity to your current job, you likely won’t yet have the benefit of knowing the warts of the new one, but you’re all too familiar with the current job’s warts. Just try to keep that in mind so you make a fair comparison. Good luck!

like

Do it or you’ll regret it every day.

Yes and yes.

I have twice (!) gotten a job years later that I previously interviewed and was rejected for. Both jobs ended up great moves for me (but with their own warts, as one of the other commenters mentioned). You have 3 more years of experience now and may be a very different candidate (partly depending on how far out you are from school).

like

What do you mean by “culture” exactly?

The vibe during the interview process was a lot better. And I would have worked with several other smart attorneys (v. being the first and only attorney in my current situation). My current company is very old school (no WFH pre-covid, wear a tie/pantyhose every day, no parental leave, etc.)

Just me? I don’t get it. I’ve interviewed for 3 large companies for a financial analyst (FP&A) position. Never heard back after 2nd-3rd round but I see all 3 being reposted. These positions at least have 100-200+ applicants. For my last job interview I made it to the 3rd round after 2 rounds and an excel test. Hiring manager even said they had to interview other applicants before coming to a decision (all 3rd round applicants passed excel test) and now none of them are qualified for the job?

This is a long-shot, but does anyone have a connection at Duolingo? I’m hoping to speak to someone to learn more about the company’s culture and a couple of the open roles. The duolingo app has genuinely been so useful to me, and from the descriptions I think I would fit really well with what they’re looking for in an employee.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?
