Oh my. I'm sorry you had to deal with this. Being a professional doesn't mark you safe from disorders. I know you're having a hard time that's why you went to get help and then here you are being invalidated. Finding the right doctor for you is quite the challenge as well. Hoping the best for you, dear!
A true diagnosis takes more than answering some questions on a form. I remember going to this center and doing random test for like 3 hours after seeing a psychologist for several months.
Yeah because a lot of doctors don’t bother and just write you a script. Dangerous game
This is a recurring issue especially if from the outside you are considered a high-functioning individual who seem to accomplish many things. It is a bit unfair and your feelings are valid.
Yep, I was told the same thing and that I was too bright to have ADHD. Meanwhile, I know an MD who has an ADHD diagnosis. In fact, the psychiatrist I saw told me that if I had ADHD, I wouldn’t be able to read.
I don't believe that at all. Maybe get a second opinion. Have you checked the Lawyers with ADHD bowl? I'm sure you'll find your place there nicely and they could answer all of your inquiries.

… also ask for another evaluation, one that uses a program to test attentiveness and impulsivity.
An ADD questionnaire may not be the best tool to diagnose, Especially if coming from the standpoint of a person who notices symptoms when being asked to focus for superhuman periods of time - as is required in law school.
Just filling out a questionnaire does not mean you have ADHD. Many other factors go into diagnosing ADHD.
Yes, but that’s not my point. I’m saying the questionnaire clearly shows I have signs of ADHD and could benefit from further assessment. I didn’t think my GPA and profession would be determinative.
Sounds like they skipped the chapter on neurodivergence in med school 🤔
Go to a different doctor for an evaluation.
Brilliant idea!

Sounds like this is coming from someone who doesn’t recognize your symptoms and thinks you cope well without meds.
Also many docs are cautious about over prescribing stimulants, especially to people who use the meds as a study/work aid
If you need meds, find another psychologist, ask your GP, or go through one of the online services that don’t seem to ask too many questions.
I comepletelt understand the overprescribing worry, especially with attorneys (which sucks). Also I should have clarified that I’m not just basing my ADHD off of a singular questionnaire. I had planned to get tested in person right before COVID while in law school but everything shut down.
Definitely on the hunt for another psych.
I was told the same thing "oh you wouldn't be able to hold down a job as an executive assistant if you had ADHD" despite the fact that my personal life and professional life are two very different pictures with 2 failed attempts at uni because of ADHD (diagnosis during attempt 2, I will finish my second round , I will)
Find a better psychiatrist ;)
This actually happened to me as well. My first doctor said the exact same thing so I went to someone else. My second doctor actually diagnosed me and then started me on meds. Its so frustrating when they try to say that good grades are a sign you don't have ADHD. They don't know we have to work twice as hard as anyone else to get those grades.
I was told this exact same thing by goon psychologist too once, total BS.
Really? WOW. I am so sorry to hear that. Just because you made it through law school doesn't mean you don't have ADHD.
