Advocate to work from home as much as possible and absolutely go home after a certain time (dinner, for example). People will respect the boundaries you set.

At the end of the day, your health and baby's is most important. Lean in when you really need to with work, but this is the time to step back when your body requires it. Keep an eye on your blood pressure too - that can quickly spiral out of control

A month is not very long. I worked 60hrs a week for 4 months at the end of my pregnancy with twins. It was tough but the dr kept a close eye on me and assured me everything was fine. I had 2 very healthy babies.

like

Wow ! You are such a strong woman ! 4 months of working 60 hrs is hard for anyone and you did it with a growing twin ! Congratulations

I told both HR and my teams that I won't work more than 55 hours during busy season and noone had a problem with that. I also used to come super early and leave early. Some people of course expressed their dislike but others which were a majority supported me. I think your health and the health of your baby are more important and you should not work until this late even for 1 month. If there is no way around, at least work from home.

I was around 4-5 months during busy season this year- similar situation in that ours only lasts about a month. The nice thing about being in second trimester is that everyone knew about it so I was able to use it to take it a bit easier than normal- it would have been much more difficult to handle being first tri, super sick, and nobody knowing! Plus you’re also not super third trimester uncomfortable. So you’re hitting it right in the sweet spot!

I would just make sure you advocate for yourself and both of your health. If you truly need to work that many hours, try to see if you can go home and work from there after a certain time of night. I had a few extra late nights during busy season where I wasn’t actively working the whole time, but I had to wait for someone else to finish up something for me to look at so I went home in the meantime and literally reviewed what she did, signed off, and rolled over and went to bed.

That’s an extra long answer I know but yes- I think it’s doable as long as your team isn’t unreasonable in expectations and is willing to pick up the slack here and there. Just remember that the health of you and your baby isn’t worth sacrificing for this job.

Also- congrats!

Moms- need advice. I joined a new firm this year and I’m pregnant. I’m completely overworked, adjusting to tons of life changes, and considering trying to leave to industry after mat leave. Is there a light at the end of this tunnel?

Quite a few people I know have left the company for other companies in the area that are paying significantly more even for lateral job moves. Curious to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience. My daughter’s name is Eleni. We have always called her by her name. For as long as she has been able to speak, she has said “Nina” when referring to herself. She is now 21 months old and when referring to herself, she still says “Nina.” She will respond to both “Eleni” and “Nina” but we just find it so strange, no idea where Nina came from. We don’t know any Ninas and she doesn’t have any friends named Nina.
