I am in sixth year at a top firm in Toronto. I’m considering lateraling to another firm that does very similar work to what I’m currently doing, essentially because I strongly dislike the culture at my current firm. If you have lateraled for a culture-related issue, what do you wish you had asked before signing? Do you think there is a way to truly suss out culture before working somewhere? I have several law school classmates at this new firm so will obv ask them.

I need some inputs on if I should pursue a MBA. Goal that I would use MBA for is getting into VC, only a undergrad internship in that space, or doing a search fund and like micro PE. I would consider corporate VC too. Alternative is to focus on meetups to meet founders, getting a better job and hit the accredited investor status so I can invest with angels. Undergrad was a top business school, so I feel strong with finance and other functions.

My current opt expires on 07/02, my h1B petition was filed on 06/16. My firm wants receipt notice for I-9 verification or I-20 and DSO won’t be able generate new I-20 without receipt notice. How do you all with larger size ~12 shoes pack for work travel? Am I the only teacher who doesn’t have family or friends willing to help with their classroom? I’ve moved rooms every year for the last 5 years and I have a large family and lot of friends, but no one is ever willing to help. I told my mom today that it really hurts my feelings, as she declined my request to help as she simultaneously asked ME to help do something for my sister’s house.
