I have been offered a lateral move within my company to a role I (believe) I will be more interested in that will suit my skills more. However, I’ve now been offered a promotion in my existing Role, and have heard that this is a pretty big deal and almost fast track to Director. Am I mad to pass up a promotion for a lateral move that is unlikely to promote me for some time?? I’ve been in my existing role almost 2yr. Will it affect my future growth? Any tips on negotiating my raise? I have a check-in with a partner this week where we will discuss my raise. I just finished my first year at a consulting firm with ~4K employees. The average raise from first to second year seems to be 6.5% but I really want to gun for 10%. I have good reviews and the best chargeability metrics in my starting class. How do I frame my target raise without sounding arrogant about my charge stats or tone deaf about the current environment?

Is it awkward to bring up the possibility of annual merit raise (usually done at end of year) with my boss now? I need some advice. My role has some HR responsibilities and therefore I have some access to company data. My review is coming up, and I plan to ask for a raise. I feel like I provide a lot of value and I’m a good employee. However, bc I have access to that data I also know that I’m making less than other employees and there is a large gap between my pay and other directors. How do I go about brining this up without being unethically about the my knowledge of this data?
So I have a moral dilemma. I requested a raise a month ago. It was finally approved. Within the last month they’ve offered 3 others counter offers AFTER I requested my raise. In that time I was interviewing elsewhere. The job I want is about $5-7k more than my raise request, but the benefits and bonuses are significantly better. Is it frowned upon to get a raise and then leave 3-4 weeks later? I don’t feel valued knowing others got a raise after I asked, and much quicker (less than a week).
I’m a senior litigation associate (same firm since I was a SA). I really like my colleagues, am doing the type of work I want to be doing, and will be up for promotion this year. Recently feeling a bit claustrophobic with RTO around the corner and the knowledge that the life of a junior partner is worse than a senior associate. I also have two young kids and am the primary breadwinner. Would you 1) stay for promotion; 2) look in house; 3) consider lateraling to fully remote at another firm? HALP

AITA? I’m a 8th year attorney working at a boutique PI firm, resolving around $30m-$40 million a year. Average case value is above $1m. But I’m also being assigned lower value cases in the low six figures. From my perspective, these eat up my time and leave me with less time to focus on the high value cases I manage. AITA to ask the partner for some kind of value threshold to let me focus on those larger cases? There are younger associates at the firm who would love the work.

I’ve been at a new firm for a couple of months and feel incompetent half the time when I’m explaining something to my new boss. I’m a third year and am usually confident in my abilities, but I feel like a first year again and I’m unsure if it’s the new more specialized practice area, being uncomfortable in a firm where I’m the new kid, or if I’ve regressed practically. Someone tell me the discomfort of being new wears off semi-quickly.

I have an offer with IBM - 18 lpa fixed and cognizant - 23lpa (22.3 lpa fixed). I asked IBM to revise the offer to match the counter, but they rejected it. I atleast asked them for 21lpa even that too rejected. The difference between in-hand salary of both comes to around 30k. Now IBM team is calling me continuously and asking if I am going to join or not. Please suggest.

I been asked to return the JB as my LWD is falling before completion of 1 year with CTS. My concern is I’m already having discussions with my manager pertaining to retaining but the clearance mails are reflecting “salary processing during NP is subject to clearance of dues”. Thus, kindly suggest what should be an ideal move in terms of returning JB and what if after returning JB I took my papers back. Also, do they hold back salary during NP ? Cognizant
