I will complete 2 years with my company soon. This is my first job out of grad school. I have received two 3% raises over the time that I have been with this company. How do I ask for a raise to match my current market value?

This is literally asked every single day...

Update your resume, and find a new company that's willing to pay you market value. When your an existing employee, your employer has the leverage to suppress salary increases as much as possible, and unless you have rock solid written documentation of the additional value that you are now bringing to the company, you won't make any progress in these discussions.

No company has ever given an individual raise with just current market value as a driver.

I just found out that an associate (same experience level) who billed fewer hours than me and had less collections got a 10k raise while I only got a 2.5K raise. She is in a different office, and her supervising partner is incredibly nice and understanding. My supervising partner is a total dick to everyone (not just me) and I got shafted. He obviously didn’t speak up for me at review. I feel like this is totally unfair and like I got overlooked. What do I do?

Can someone explain why all back office roles at investment banks are regarded so poorly? I hear things like the jobs are really dull and the pay is low. Is this true across the board? I'm thinking of internal consulting roles at investment banks. These seem to be interesting opportunities with decent compensation. Why all the hate on anything that isn't front office IB?

Hi, are there any Construction Project Managers/Owner’s Representatives out there? I’ve been one for 1.5 years, after being a Structural Engineer for 10 yrs. I’m so grateful I made the pivot bc I had gotten completely miserable on the engineering side and now I love my job. I also made a significant salary jump to just over $100k when I made the switch. But bc I felt underpaid most of my engineering career, I want to make sure I don’t continue to be. Am I doing good? For reference I’m 34/female.

How much would you say a technical product manager in Toronto, Canada with about 2 years of experience as a PM but overall 10 years exp in tech can make?

Salary range for role is 95k-135k. It’s also on my current team with the same manager. I feel under qualified with 1.5 YOE and 2 internships. The previous person in the role made about 95k with 3 YOE and did say that the role was a lot of work. I want to negotiate for 110k-120k would I be unreasonable?

Hi everyone. I started to work in this company (first paid job) one year ago. In this year I performed well, met the goals and gave an impact to whole team from social point of view. I think my current salary is ok, but I am considering asking for a small raise now, after one year has passed. The increase would not change my life but would make me appreciated and valued. Is it too early to ask for a raise or it’s legit? I have a very good relationship with my boss and I don’t want to fuck up.

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

Which strategy is better?

#1 - The first tactic I learned for salary negotiation is to give them a # and act like you will walk away if it's not met. I forget the details, but something like even if they give you a lower #, you still stick to your #.

#2 - You can also give them a # and they may come back with a lower # and you can take it or leave it.

#3 - A new coach told me about giving a range. He said if you give them a #, they may flat out say no.

Can't they say no to any of these?

I was offered X$ as a salary for a supervisor role. I asked for 10k more as a counter and received a greater breakdown of the correct pay being offered. With bonuses and shift diff it comes to maybe 5k more. That is only if the bonuses and overtime bonuses kick in. Do I still go with my original counter? This is very confusing for me.
