Take it in stride keep doing your best
That sounds pretty hard on yourself, OP. I hope you’ll take a minute to think about what you’ve done well and how you’ve grown! Plus: side note from someone senioring their first job: seniors need to learn how to work with people less experienced than they ;)
OP, I always felt like I wasn’t good enough or I was not getting things done fast enough. I asked tons of questions during my first year and still in my second year. Like TONS. People thought I didn’t have enough business acumen or whatever (and I agree with that actually) to understand things faster but ended up appreciating me trying to always understand things and clear things up to get the job done right. And slow job is better than half ass job done in a rush. I eventually got a Tier 1 rating and an early promotion. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Try to do the right thing and give things your best shot. You will be ok :)
Ask all your questions at once and take good notes. As a former senior my biggest pet peeve was someone asking the same question twice.
I feel like I'm just making seniors life harder and I feel bad for taking up the spot when my seniors can have someone better
Do the best you can and understand that your senior might also not be the best. Do what you can and help where you can.
1) if it’s a new senior/client for the senior there’s a lot of shit they don’t know either.
2) new hires don’t know how to do anything and if your senior doesn’t remember that they’re the idiot
OP is what is referred to as an insecure overachiever. Firms love you guys. You feel like you suck so you keep trying harder and working longer. It's a thing, look it up.
Homie! Preach! I’m an intern and I feel the same way. I think it’s about learning the hard way
Better you do the work than me! And when you say you ask tons of dumb questions, I hear: there are no surprises for your seniors when they review=you must be a popular associate.
Thank you guys so much!! It makes me feel better that I can improve down the road if I keep trying. PwC1 like you said, I think my mind just doesnt click like some people do and I'm just frustrated because im not seeing the results I want to see. This shall too pass with patience and persistence. Hopefully my senior and I can develop a work chemistry so our learning/coaching styles are in sync
As someone already said, taking good notes is key. Make sure you understand the goal / big picture. Self review really helps too.
