Agreed, the cpa is pointless. You learn everything on the job anyways. I’ve been rated a high performer and been promoted early. I’ve never seen or thought to myself, “wow, without the knowledge I acquired through the cpa exam, I wouldn’t have been able to complete this task.” It’s such a pointless credential.
That’s not what the CPA is. It’s also the case with almost every professional certification.
It’s not about imparting you with some great, unobtainable knowledge. it’s simply proving that YOU as a candidate have the basic level of intellect, willpower and tenacity to be in a job that requires them.
What’s next? Should they get rid of the bar exam and the medical exam? Based on the arguments here, as long as you studied then you are good to be a doctor even if you didn’t pass the board exam. Query would you take your kid to such a self proclaimed doctor? If answer is no, then same applies to CPA.
“I’ve been rated a high performer” - literally everyone on this app
It’s how B4 make people feel good. Tell everyone that isn’t getting a PIP they’re a high performer. Of course these “high performers” magically get median bonuses.

At least then us audit folks might actually get paid a premium for having such sacred knowledge. 🧐
Are you in tax? Tbh to be effective in many tax positions, you have to understand GAAP.
Maybe it isn’t necessary if you work on individuals, but it’s pretty essential for any work that involves a company giving you GAAP trial balances.
Just study for the test and move on.
Bad post. Move on

Apparently you can move up in tax with an EA designation 🤷♂️
Some industry Managers/VPs/Controllers don’t have CPAs too
Probably depends on group. I know two EA managers and they qualified for cpa.
Not saying that everything I learned for the CPA was worth it, but I have used something from it in one way or another each step of my career. And while I think a lot of the exams were wasteful efforts, there were some instances where I’ve worked with people who would’ve benefitted quite a bit from studying for the CPA if only so I wouldn’t have to explain basic accounting to someone who is getting paid to do accounting
