I wonder if there are any attorneys here whose first language is not English. I’m one. Mid-level associate in a mid-size law firm. Don’t know many of us and looking to share experiences.

Same. Litigator. Feels good to win an argument against someone in their native language :)

English is my second language. I’m in corporate law. I used to want to get rid of the accent but recently have come to accept it as just part of who I am.

like

Speech coach, but they were not helpful and basically said that if I am being understood, there is no need for accent reduction.

I’m one of them, too. What’s your biggest challenge not being a native speaker?

honestly, it’s just an accent, meaning you have to fight, argue, and work just like any other non-accent lawyer. :) life can already be so hard as is, we have to ease up on our expectations/perspectives of ourselves. So please, accept and embrace your badass accent :):)

I have sent in my resignation letter on March 14th to my HR. But since then, I haven not received any document (release letter, official acceptance letter etc). My HR has just called me to let me know my LWD but apart from that no document or mail to confirm my lwd. Can anyone tell me what is the process? Also in Ultimatix it is showing that I'm on Active Assignment and Confirmed employee. Is it not supposed to change after i send my resignation? Please help me figure out the process.

Hi Fishes,

I dont feel valued and recognised in my team. I have joined here as an Analyst with a CTC of 10lpa carrying 4.5 YOE; which is far less than my peers. I am an individual contributor and deliver business solely without any skip level manager. I have communicated the same to my coach and he is promissing me a promotion next year. I do have an offer from EY as Asst Manager so should I wait for Deloitte to revise my pakage or should i put down my paper and then bargain.

Anyone have any reliable free resources (CLEs, practice guides) for tax law and estate/probate/wills? I don’t have the money for anything paid, but I’d like to selfstudy these areas in the meantime. About to turn down a job offer that would nearly double my salary after speaking to several former associates of the firm and hearing some not so great things. The word “sweatshop” was used multiple times yet I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around it. This is truly “you can’t pay me enough to be part of that” in action. I am betting that I can get the same money at a place with a better culture - hopefully I am right!

So, I got the job - a formal written offer was made today @ $10k under the company’s “target” base pay. I have been told that the offer that has been made is the best and highest available based on my experience (ideally company would have wanted a few more years).

It really sounds like there’s no room for negotiation but I want to try - do I say that I need $5k-$10k more otherwise I will be unable to accept or do I just accept the very generous offer on the table?

Advice please…
