My old agency was like that. I figured everything balances out. Every now and then there were weeks I was legitimately working 60+ hours, others I would maybe realistically work 4.

Ok good to hear

I was in a situation like this and greatly regret not throwing my shoulder into award ideas for the agency’s other accounts. Shows initiative and who knows, you might hit the nail in the head. If they don’t give you work, make yourself own.

like

Could you elaborate on how you would have done this? Do I get my AD and build a slide with the idea and pitch it to my CD who might tell me to pitch it to the other account’s CD?

I’m actually surprised you still have a job, and that it’s ok to bill the client when you’re not doing anything. That’s a RS flag that things aren’t running well. I’d raise my hand to ask for other assignments or work on award stuff if your agency is into that. Or work on your portfolio—you can’t build a career with a job like that.

Cw2 and OP, I’m sorry you’re not getting the opportunities you want. It’s hard to stand out in this virtual world. When you get back to your offices eventually, you’ll have more visibility. Till then, keep raising your hands. Something may come up where you can shine.

What about the rest of the team on the same account? What about your partner? I've been in similar situations and it's not normal nor good in so many ways. Your portfolio suffers. You become complacent. You don't sound like you're growing at all. You're at risk anytime. You probably manage to survive cos you're (presumably) not costing the agency much.

smart

....What do you put on your timesheets?

Lol I’m salaried. I just put that I am working the whole time as I am basically on call even if I don’t have actual work.

I’ve never been on one client only. That sounds like a dream. I have six right now and I just worked until 2 am last night and woke up at 7 to keep working on it. I’m super jealous right now.

I’ve been seeing this a lot more recently and just had to make a thread about it. I refuse to believe that anyone on here has actually been asked to work a 100hr week. People come onto this thread with legitimate questions and concerns and I just see people trying to scare them out of public which inevitably makes it worse for everyone else who sticks around. Even an 80 hour week is debatable and that is the absolute top. Stop trying to be an attention getter. We work, but not 24/7.

Did I do the right thing??
