I work at a T3 tech company (think Spotify). Comp discussions are in March, ive been getting recruiters all month offering me 30-35k more for the same level, is this something I can bring up at year end if I’m only expecting a 5k raise?

IMO I would bring it up either in a 1:1, review period or end of year, whatever makes the most sense. I would position it as “you know we’ve all heard how big the market is right now. I’m consistently having recruiters reaching out to me, but I really enjoy what we’re doing here, who I work with, etc. but these recruiters are offering at least 30k more than I’m making right now, which can really be beneficial to me. It puts me in a difficult position I really don’t want to be in, what possibilities are there for me here?” Something like that, of course reading and knowing your audience is important and how they best receive and hear things. No manager wants to lose people, especially in this market. I was a manager in my last job and I would 100% have tried to figure out how to make things right for an employee that wants to stay but feels undervalued. It’s not worth trying to keep someone once they’ve interviewed and accepted another job, almost every manager knows that. But for an employee to bring this up before they are out getting offers is the time to be able to show them they are valuable. Good luck!

100% on that, Amazon! How the employer responds will definitely help clarify next steps.

Having the offer in hand could get you there, but would require you to go through the recruiting process. Letting your employer know that others pay more isn’t enough money to push them for more - they already know that. Give them a reason to pay you more, or stay put

Thanks everyone! For context we got a mid year raise of 5k (base is now 125) after HR did a market assessment. The reason I’m asking even though I don’t want to leave nor do I intend to get another offer is management has made it clear they plan on asking us “are you happy” with comp via a survey at year end

I’m on the verge of getting an offer from a startup company that was acquired by a $2bn company. I make $70k & no bonus. The offer would be $105k base+10% bonus. To get to the TC the startup is offering, it would take 3-4 years in my DTE at Accenture. The title is 3 titles up from what I currently am. However, it’s a step down from a brand perspective and I’d mostly be working with older people vs. people my age. Thoughts? Opinions?

How can I set the stage this year to negotiate a lower billable hours expectation instead of a raise? As a woman I'm hesitant to be open about my reason: I want more time at home with my kids. I lateraled to this firm a year ago for WLB and they are indeed flexible on WFH which helps. Salary is a bit below average for mid-size firms like mine in my area, and I didn't get a raise or bonus this year because I didn't hit the billable target (1900). Ideally I'd keep my salary but go to 1600 hours.

First year M&A associate. I never came into big law wanting /expecting to gun or make partner, and first year pretty much confirmed that. I'm more than happy to leave for in house in 4-6 years and live a much more chill life. Knowing this, what is the best way to max out the $'s? I'm thinking of considering auto-lateral at year 2/3 and again at 4/5 just for the signing bonus (I know things may change and maybe I wouldn't do it if I loved my firm or got an in house job), but is this viable?

Anybody go from cyber consulting (assessment based/cyber maturity/incident response plan) to a more technical role? I really want to make this move but not sure if it’s possible without cutting my salary down significantly. Just worried about finding a technical role when all my experience is self taught and home lab based.

Payback Clauses!! I received a sign-on bonus and was informed that if I left the company prior to 18 months I would have to pay back X% of my sign-on bonus. I recently accepted a new job and have flexibility as to when I put in my 2 week notice. If my 18 month anniversary date is on December 8th, can I put in my two week notice before this date with the understanding that my last day would fall after this date, or would it be safest to put in my 2 week notice after my 18 month anniversary date?
