Because I can tell time with my Iphone already.
Most partners in consulting aren’t flashy. Optics are taken into consideration when they’re working with clients, and rolling into a meeting with a Rolex and Hermès belt isn’t a look you want to give.
This isn’t banking
The future is full of surprises and just because I’m a partner doesn’t mean there is any real certainty in what’s ahead. I drive a 6 year old car and my wife car is 5. I live in a modest house that would likely shock most - but it’s fully paid for. I own very little that would be considered flashy. My daughters college is paid for 100%, I rent small place for family to gather in the winter and go in one nice vacation a year. Living like that has allowed me not to worry about money ever for the last 4 years. I’ll take the stress free life over the bobble any day as I remember the days of being house poor and not being able to even get dinner because I was on a budget.... But to each their own.
Agree. Nothing is better for stress reduction than pennies in the bank and low future cash flow commitments
I have zero interest in spending that kind of money on watches. On the other hand, cars are a different story altogether.
Because they don't want to spend 15k on jewelry?
I’ve been very fortunate in my career, prior to and following my joining B4. I have a passion for high end timepieces, and own two PPs. Not once have I worn them to work, nor are my peers (some of which could likely afford them) even aware I own them. In this space optics are critical, both internal and external. No need to introduce a variable into relationships that has the opportunity to be divisive, right or wrong.
Follow-up, if something you have an interest in requires reaction or validation from others, I would reassess the root of your interest and if it is worth the capital outlay.
Does anyone below the age of 40 even aspire to get a Rolex anymore?
P7 - is it the ceramic bezel? White or black face?
I’m positive these Partners are wearing better watches that not Rolex’s. Yes they do exist. :)
Probably under the radar or less flashy or lesser known brands but more expensive than a Rolex.
It’s wild how expensive they’ve gotten but as I say about a lot of things, one day…
Not at P-Dubs, but I have zero interest in wasting money on jewelry. My Garmin Venu works quite well and has far more utility than a boring Rolex.
Why waste money on a watch that no one else will see 95% of the time?
Thanks for answering out of turn.
You don’t get wealthy by *spending* money
Mentor
I’m sure there are more, but I’m only aware of one partner at my firm who wears a Rolex.
I can barely be bothered to wear a watch, let alone one that would impress others.
Apple Watch works great. No need for anything else.
I don't even own a watch 😅
Because I wear a Patek Nautilus
Few people outside of watch enthusiasts understand how baller that is
In the London office(s) I know a lot of partners with Rolexes / APs / PPs
I rock a nice stainless steel Apple Watch and will splurge on bands. I’d rather put that Rolex money toward a vacation house.
Usually people who worked hard to get their money tend to not show it off on flashy items.
Yes I have. There are a few partners in DDV who have nice watches.
Rolexes are for weekend wear. Patek at the office: Not easy to identify.
Yeah, not those. A understated Calavtrava.
Rolexes keep horrid time and aren’t terribly elegant. The submariner used to be the purchase you made alongside your 5-series. Now we buy rental properties with that cash
Lol what rental properties are you buying for the price of a submariner at 10-15k?
