In Salt Lake City it's SLP's and OT's in short supply. However, here's a thought. Maybe they are both tired of putting in the same number of hours in the day and seeing the same patients as PT and yet being paid less than PT. Just something to consider.
Interesting - I hire therapists for my region and I can tell you that our rates don’t differ by discipline.
Im and SLP in NJ. We are so underpaid. Have been trying to hire a PT for over a year and every applicant has turned it down because of the salary. I am currently about 10 grand a year under paid. I think people are just tired of putting so much money into their education and these big companies low balling them, giving terrible medical benefits, and terrible benefits like PTO.
In addition to what is already mentioned, not everyone likes to work in SNFs. Especially if productivity measures are unrealistic.
SNF HR director here. Every position in a snf is understaffed. Historically low and uncompetitive wages so no one wants to work for us.
Also consider the role of restorative nurses as well in partnership with the pt and cota
I feel like it depends on the area. I live in mass and there are a number of OT schools in a small area so the market here seems over saturated. That being said, I feel like there is such a high burnout, especially in SNFs. I feel like lots of therapists, especially those with experience, are looking for non-clinical opportunities. I have been working for a year as a manager in the O&P field. I am just starting to get to the point where I miss patient care and have interest in pursuing a per diem position to maintain my skills.
