I work for a small firm, 2 attorneys and 3 support staff. Soon to be 2 support since my homie is leaving me.
The dynamic in the office is terrible. Its always something there, usually bad. I have anxiety and depression. On top of heightened life situations, the stress in the office hurt me this week. I took of yesterday and today for a mental health break and now my boss is guilt-tripping and shaming me.

Is there anything I can do? I’m medicated and have taken therapy for years.

If I can make a suggestion- consider something like joining the Robert Half salaried professional services team. You’re an employee of Robert Half, but get sent on assignments that could last anywhere from a few weeks to 6+ months. It’s completely remote (read: WFH), and they still pay you if you’re between projects - it’s called ‘bench time’. You get the beauty of a salaried job while still working from home, and if the assignment is less than favorable - you know it’s not permanent.

Comparable to experience and market value for where you live. I make between 70-80k, and I have 4-5 paralegal experience in both small firms and big law.

Hey! I was in a VERY similar situation a year ago, with more attorneys and less support staff though. Ultimately I just had to leave and find something else, and my mental health has been so so much better. Other than that, commiserating with the other support staff is what got me through. Happy to chat more (or just listen) in dm’s.

I’m being punished for mental health days. New hire, like today today, is going to Court with boss lady Monday for a jury trial that I have been researching jurors for. The reason, I’m needed more in the office.
Okay, cool!

I’m in the same boat! Low staff, National firm, told them this is affecting my mental health. I left early for an appointment, nothing got done and was super stressed the next day. Been on medication for anxiety, tried talking to manager about issues but they just laugh and say that they appreciate me and my hard work. Seriously can’t take days off because worried about what’s not getting done. National firm with managers that don’t understand that different states have different laws. Seriously want to find something else and give my two weeks.

I don’t think that most people they find in the lake went in it willingly. Water makes it too easy to cover up murders. Washes away evidence. But it’s dismissed because most people they found had also been drinking. But people just disappearing miles away from the Lake don’t just fall in it. Yes, suicide happens. But many of these cases show zero signs of anything like that. The constant MO is being out with friends having fun. The friend vanishes. Then is found in the lake weeks later.

Additional Posts in Paralegals

I started at my office over a year and a half ago as a legal assistant. I moved up to a paralegal role in December, but once Covid hit and we let some people go, I was given some of the responsibilities of legal assistant and receptionist on top of my paralegal position. They want to increase my salary to $33,000 /year, which is a substantial increase, but I was making so little as a legal assistant that I’m not sure. I live in a metropolitan city with 1 yr experience. Let me know your thoughts!

I think I enjoy the idea of a few years in big law after law school to pay off loans (undergrad+law school), but am not sold b/c I have been remote since I started in January and rarely get to interact live with deal teams. How can I tell?
