My friend works in real estate PE and he showed me a pitch deck where a broker said they “have an Agile development process to real estate construction” which is completely…impossible

Meh. As a former SWE myself, I see this kind of attitude all the time among my former colleagues. Just because the concept is not pure in the way techies mean it, or used in the same way he would use it, does not mean that it’s not useful. Is McK’s agile office doing the same thing as this guy’s tech teams? No. Of course not. Different audiences, different contexts, one targeted at senior management and one at frontline teams. Of course they don’t mean the same thing. There are some shared principles and goals, but those manifest very differently for different audiences and roles. Should we have a different word? Probably. But again, meh. If you’re getting so tripped up on terminology and purity of the agile method, then this isn’t targeted at you.

Set aside terminology then, and skip to the substance. How is Agile meaningful in these other contexts you mentioned? You said he didn’t prove that it wasn’t useful in other contexts; ok, then how is it useful? How is it used in these different and varied ways, that are different from how “techies” view the term? You used a lot of words to say absolutely nothing of substance. “Is it the same? No of course not…” (then you fail to elaborate on how it’s different). “Different audiences, different contexts, different bla bla bla…” (again nothing specific on how it’s different or why there’s value in these other views of Agile) “Shared principles and goals that manifest very differently…..” (again more bla bla that fails to say HOW anything is different). And then the finale: “if you’re getting tripped up on the fact that I haven’t actually explained anything of substance to you, then you’re to blame because you’re dumb, so this isn’t for you”. And you wonder why people laugh at this shit?

I 100% agree with everything he’s saying, and it’s also why I say it’s virtually impossible to be Agile within consulting delivery. The premise of Agility is “we don’t know the best way forward so we’re going to experiment, test, and adjust course”… Try getting an SOW for that.

PwC’s “agile enterprise” is a similarly vapid concept when you peel away the jargon, offering little beyond common sense statements like companies that succeed are able to meet customer needs and better technology gives you better efficiency. I feel attacked

https://joinfishbowl.com/comment_hvuwp The Single Consultants bowl can be great for advice across the spectrum, but then you always end up getting comments like this guy claiming that men and women are equally harassed and there isn’t enough attention on men for this. There is a comment before this in which I say that it’s absolutely not ok for harassment to occur to either gender, but harassment and fear of being attacked is a constant item women need to think about on a regular basis, and men so not. This was his response.

QQQ March 18, 2022 $415 calls at $4.27. Opinion on this trade? I am betting QQQ will raise at least 20% from the current level to $445 by next year February - March. That puts this call at 600% profit. Is this a good bet or should I make this a spread?

Lots of post about kids so I’ll offer one that’s been on my mind. Why more than one kid? I grew up with a sibling. She is my best best friend but as I’ve gotten older realized we were more of the exception. Lucky that we are same gender (which I do think impacts closeness), that we are close in age, and just clicked like bffs. Have since met so many sibs with non existent and toxic relationships. More kids = more expense. After passing on genes and getting love of a child, why have more than one
